(33,381 posts)Seems like the noisiest ones are against even attempting to act Christ-like. All the tv preachers cry and pontificate on camera while, in fact, worshipping mammon. Now they have their Orange Baby Bovine to bow down to instead of a golden calf.
(This is not a blanket condemnation of Christians; I've known a few people who tried to live according to their religion).

(36,853 posts)Political Christians rather than Christians of faith.
They support Trump who says he is so perfect that he does not need Christ or his forgiveness.
Like today's evangelical/religious right supporters, Trump is a Political Christian, not a Christian of faith.
Evangelicals/religious right are easily able to spin their beliefs for political expediency.
The Donald who does not have to ask Jesus for forgiveness.
The Donald who ridicules Holy Communion.

(58,785 posts)mental equipment to figure out what that is on their own and are natural victims, easily lead wrong by bad "spiritual" and other leaders. Moral intelligence, and lack of it, is not something we talk about much, but it's as real as numerical intelligence and far more important.
And having visited some evangelical and/or fundamentalist churches here in the south, I can report that some of them are lead by well-meaning ministers and pastors who themselves have no idea of their grave moral and intellectual limitations. Sincerity is not understanding.

(297,432 posts)works for me. I don't know much about religion but I've read some of the teachings of Christ.. and trump is obviously the polar opposite. As in Evil.
My sister is one of those Christians who is an excellent example of the real deal. Darnest thing.. she happens to be a Democrat, too.

(33,381 posts)Christianity and the modern Republican party are completely incompatible. Jesus never said, "Make the little brown children suffer."
I've butted heads with GOPers who have claimed to be devout Christians. Every one said those children got what they deserve. The conversation ended with me saying, "Don't ever thump _your_ bible at me again. It's a disgusting perversion of the real one of my youth." and:
But Jesus called them unto him and said, Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.

(5,617 posts)I don't know of any quotes to that effect, anyhow.
What he is concerned about it Pat Robertson making money; which he does when the gullible send him money to support his efforts to save all of those unborn children. Which is BS, of course, but that's a subject for another thread

(36,853 posts)Judas was an early modern day conservative disciple.
Judas got 30 pieces of silver, but just once, for selling Christ.
Pat Robertson, Jim Bakker and their ilk get millions of dollars repeatedly for selling Christ.
Judas was a fool for doing a one-time sale.

(4,341 posts)People from lower economic circles have the highest numbers of abortions, and those are also the same people who have the highest numbers of kids who register in the military. Abortions, taking into account the demographic as I have explained, are not good for the military and GOP constant intentions to go engage in wars.
As the GOP have shown, they don't care for human lives, they have no intentions to better the world, the country, only their personal lives. To believe that republicans have some spiritual reason to be against abortion is fantasy.
No one who really appreciates human lives, and fill their mouths with "every life is sacred" would not engage in wars, would be outraged about what just happened with the Saudi reporter, would try to make people's lives better by pushing for universal healthcare, equality for women and other ethnic groups, white supremacist support would be out of the question because the intention of those groups is exactly the contrary of preserving lives, they, as Hitler did want to exterminate anyone they don't consider white and "pure".
Pat Robertson is an opportunistic asshole who has made a lot of money and lived a very elite life by talking to idiots and taking their money. Pat Robertson doesn't give a damn about people either, he is a con artist like many in the GOP, I believe he has done a lot of damage to USA citizens who follow him.
Can't remember who said "Religion is the opium of the masses", and he/she was right. People like Robertson give false hope to people just to take their money, they spew hate any chance they get and through their religious rhetoric manage to create more division. People who become religious fanatics, and tend to be republicans as well, will stop a friendship at nothing when anyone differs about their religious beliefs.

(29,322 posts), "The [Saudi] authorities depend on bullets ... and killing and imprisonment. We must depend on the roar of the word, on the words of justice".[11] He explained further, "We do not accept [the use of firearms]. This is not our practice. We will lose it. It is not in our favour. This is our approach [use of words]. We welcome those who follow such [an] attitude. Nonetheless, we cannot enforce our methodology on those who want to pursue different approaches [and] do not commit to ours. The weapon of the word is stronger than the power of bullets."[5]
