Politics are spilling over in my life with intolerance and suspicion...

I was on the phone with my mortgage lender officer to renew my pre-approval. She informed me that she changed companies. The new mortgage company that hired her is "faith based" and does "mission work", she says with excitement.

What? The mortgage lender? Faith based and does mission work? I asked.

Yes, and they are one of the fastest growing mortgage lenders in the country. HQ is in North Carolina and they are national.

I became reactive. I asked, is the company radical right wing evangelicals? Are there confederate flags around the office?

She was not amused by me and said she was offended. I did back down, but still held my position of suspicion.

We finished the call cordially, but after hanging up I realized by my instant reaction that this is not a match for me and I will be moving on to another lender.

Whew! I have fire in my belly and it comes out when I least expect it. I am furious with the republicans for destroying our country and a "faith based mortgage lender" is probably right in step with the corrupt mess. IMHO and probably some judgement as well.

I absolutely make economic choices based on my politics. Won't shop at the new Hobby Lobby in town. Won't buy Eden canned vegetables. Don't eat at Carl's Jr. (OK, so I don't eat fast food, but I deliberately snub Carl's). Just found out that a local winery owner who makes a lovely Pinot Gris is a big republican donor, so now I won't buy their wines.

The only additional impact that we can have besides voting, as far as I'm concerned, is to vote with our wallets.

back when were beginning the process of purchasing another home. We were working with 2 partners, women, until they referred to a property as 'the divorce house.'

I gave them a chance, asked if that's what I heard and they affirmed that it was. I just couldn't work with people so biased, conservative and discriminatory as in,-- 'the handicapped house.' 'the crime house,' 'the heart disease house,' etc.

Isn't your pre-approval with a specific mortgage company? I don't understand these things very well, other than when I was buying my place around ten years ago the mortgage person I was working with gave up on the company that was originally to be my lender because they kept on dicking around. I forget the details.

In any case, you are vastly better off without a faith based mortgage company. Such bullshit. And yeah, too bad you didn't point out to her that the Bible is quite down on charging interest, so if you stay with them you expect a zero percent interest on your mortgage. Actually, it might be fun to call her up and discuss that with her, and listen to her justify faith based interest rates.

call our business and tout themselves as a “Christian” organization as one of the reasons we should switch to them. My husband had the guy on speaker phone so I could listen while I was working. My reaction was immediate and visceral. Get that guy the hell off my phone. Seriously? Christian credit card processing?

Sorry about you having to re-do the paperwork for your mortgage but you’ll probably be glad you did this in the long run.
