Allen, who was 65 years old, announced on Oct. 1 that the disease had returned. His doctors had said they were optimistic about the results from the latest therapies. Allen had battled non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2009.

I've reached the point where I truly believe that once you have cancer, it never really goes away. It just goes dormant, for a while, waiting for your immune system to weaken. I'm convinced that's what happened with my sister. She was "cancer free" for over 15 years and then was exposed to a really bad black mold situation in her classroom. Shortly after, the cancer was back, and more vicious than ever.

It was hard to bury the family baby.

Our good friends just lost their barely 50 year old son to ALS. The worst part was that he was a brilliance medical doctor who knew exactly what was happening as it happened. He remained lucid even after he could barely breathe.

I think the issue may have been how he distributed his political donations. Often with people like him, people don't see the behind the scenes charitable work that they do. People that are mega-rich, like the Kochs, Mercers, Adelsons are vile people, they are out for personal gain or to hurt people. People like Allen, Kraft in New England, Ross in Miami, are far more complicated, they do a lot of building up their communities.

Allen made his largest ever political contribution, $100,000, to Protect the House to help Republicans hold onto the House (there's a link to the Seattle Times story in a post below). That's chump change to a multi-billionaire, but it's $100,000 of direct support for a political party that breaks up families seeking refugee status or asylum in the United States.

You want to sugarcoat that? That's your right. But for some of us, an additional $100,000 to support today's brand of Republicans is beyond nauseating.

He did a lot for the civic life of the PNW. Blazers, Seahawks, Sounders, EMP, Allen Institute, a redeveloped S. Lake Union neighborhood.

What will happen with Vulcan & the sports franchises now will be... interesting.

That sounds like a little thing but EMP is utterly wonderful. Both the music and sci-fi museums are just amazing. I actually saw him play guitar with Little Feat in the Sky Church there years ago and he was just a happy kid.

Wonder what’ll happen to the spirts scene.

RIP, man. That’s all too short a turn. 🕯

or even retire and ruin other people's lives.

and just think that those that voted for trump and claim he is a successful businessman would never have voted for the actual successful businessman who actually did good things.

Will his sister take ownership?

I'm only four years younger than him. His passing reminds you we're only here for a limited time.
