He's raising money for Democratic State Parties and candidates -- conveniently in places like New Hampshire and Iowa.

(94,598 posts)With respect to the Beto issue, the notice about the funding division was pretty clear, and is something many other campaigns have done.

(62,444 posts)That's different than raising money for one's PAC. Is his PAC then simply passing the money to the candidates? If so, why not just fundraise for them directly?
Beto never gave permission to use his name for anyone's PAC. That's why it was pulled.
There was no "notice about the funding division" in the tweet that Avenatti posted with the donation link.
Noted right-wing publication The Daily Beast put it this way:
https://www.thedailybeast.com/political-money-grubbers-flock-to-texas-to-cash-in-on-beto-gold-rush
It is pretty skeezy, said Brendan Fischer, the director of federal and FEC reform programs at the Campaign Legal Center, of the fundraising tactic. If Avenatti wanted to raise funds for Beto ORourkes campaign, he could just share a link to the Beto for Senate donation page. But he didnt. Avenattis tweet gave viewers the impression their donation would support Beto for Senate, and given how easy it is to make a one-click donation through ActBlue, some viewers could miss the fine print disclosing that their donation would be split with Avenattis PAC.

Which is different from guessing wrong.
Conveniently, his PAC filed its first quarterly statement today:
http://docquery.fec.gov/pdf/568/201810159125003568/201810159125003568.pdf
11907.98 in receipts
7804.78 in disbursements
Of that 7.8k in disbursements, the lion's share are to:
Act Blue (various amounts)
Break Something (internet advertising) $4500
NGP Van (database provider) $1000
Adam Parkhomenko (travel) $1491
Then there are a bunch of rides on Lyft and some shipping charges.
There is absolutely nothing to support your contention that he's charging his PAC for appearances at events for various candidates (which would be contributions to those candidates).
But, more than 50% of his disbursements thus far are for advertising.
