Man shot in Panama City amid looting in aftermath of Hurricane Michael: report

A man was shot while trying to steal a police officer’s squad car Thursday night in Panama City, according to a report by ABC 3 WEAR TV, an ABC affiliated news station serving Pensacola.

A witness told WEAR that he saw a man entering the squad car and yelling, “I’m looting.” State fire marshals attempted to get the man out of the vehicle, according to WEAR. The witness told the news outlet that he turned to go back inside his home, which is when he heard shots fired.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, according to WEAR.

Power lines remain down in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, which is believed to be why looting has become rampant in Panama City, WEAR reported. WEAR reporters said they saw a multiple people robbing a convenience store after the door had been smashed.

Florida is a peninsula, mostly surrounded by water, and nobody knows how to get relief supplies there. It's a logistical nightmare!

It's incredible! Nearly an entire state, and it's a peninsula! FEMA is looking into the possibility of shooting relief supplies into Florida with a t-shirt cannon. It's unbelievable!
