The Repubs, and Manchin, would have LOVED it if Franken had spent 8 hours (2 days?, 3?) in a hearing broadcast nationwide while his accusers explained in detail just how he supposedly stuck his tongue down their throats and fondled their buttocks in public.

There are some here who are so committed to internecine fighting that they seem to have trouble remembering there is another party and don't believe it poses half the danger the majority alliance in our party does. When Republicans take out one of our senators, they're as incapable of understanding what happened as Trump is of understanding anything he refuses to believe. You cannot convince him. Bizarre.

"In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally." ~ Trump, who knows it's all true.

Many many others went along with KG. Even Baldwin, whom I support here in Wisconsin. The strongest voices IMO wanted him out of the way of their own career paths early on.

I disagree with all of them but will support Baldwin due to the climate here in Wisconsin.

I will never primary support with money or vote any of them in a Pres primary.

Proactively denying due process when an accused has requested it is not a behavior our party should value.

Some were elbowed into it, some vociferously led the charge.

I am not crazy about Baldwin, but her opponent is of the wingnut Repub wing.

I am very uncomfortable with blatant sexist campaigns on either side.

I think the prosecutor in her got the best of her judgment, and she didn't want to be seen as weak. She should have sided with the Innocence Project instead on this one. I am betting this was nothing other than an error in judgement on Harris' part. A massive one, and, for me, one never to be forgotten, but I don't think her primary motive was the cold, calculated elimination of someone she saw as a potential presidential rival down the road.

However, I think that "I believe the best thing for Senator Franken to do is step down" pretty much constitutes "calling for his resignation."

I had better not let my mood color my sentiments here. I left Brussels at 2:40 local time. Due to a hostage situation in Köln, I am shuttling back and forth between Aachen and Düren trying to find SOME train that will get to Düsseldorf before midnight. I figured in the spirit of this thread which seems to be to exonerate the person who led the charge against Franken by posting old news. I'm assuming this is because of recent polls which show Gillibrand tied with Avenatti in terms of 2020 popularity that the effort is underway to rehabilitate her image.

The fact is that she was a problematic Democratic candidate before the Franken thing and has a lot of other strikes against her that others (such as Harris and Warren) who also called for Franken's ouster do not.

This isn't a single issue thing, it's a question of that person's political history taken as a whole.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois:

“I am deeply disappointed by Senator Franken’s behavior. He must step aside. To all those across America who have come forward to share their stories over the past few months: thank you. Your courage and strength in driving this long-overdue national conversation is awe-inspiring. As national leaders, we must hold ourselves to a higher standard — and we must lead by example to ensure every person is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. This isn’t about Democrats or Republicans, it’s about our society. It’s about who we are as a people and the kind of country we want our daughters — and our sons — to grow up in," Duckworth said in a statement.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts:

"I think he should resign," Warren said in a statement to POLITICO. A spokesperson said Warren had urged him privately to step aside.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island:

“Given what we have learned in recent weeks, I expect Senator Franken to step aside," Whitehouse said in a statement.

Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut:

"The increasing number of women coming forward suggests a pattern of repeated harassment and unacceptable behavior that is impossible to ignore. Senator Franken has denied some of these allegations and has the right to continue to seek a process through the Ethics Committee, but I believe the best course of action for him right now is to step down, as I expect he will do tomorrow," said in a statement.

Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey:

"I think it's time for him to step down," Booker told reporters.

Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island:

“I think Senator Franken should resign. The accumulating accusations and acknowledgment that inappropriate behavior took place cannot be countenanced. Sexual harassment must not be tolerated and this is part of a larger national discussion that is long overdue and must lead to fundamental change and lasting progress," Reed said in a statement.

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, an independent who caucuses with the Democratic Party:

“Sen. Franken has said that he will be making an announcement about his political future tomorrow. The right thing is for him to resign. We are now at a crossroads in American culture. And it is an important one. The way we treat women in our country has been abysmal in almost every way. We are finally addressing the issue of sexual harassment, and we need to get it right. But the conversation we are having now is only the tip of the iceberg. It needs to be an ongoing movement of women and men that includes a national discussion about sexism, sexual harassment, objectification, inequality and abuse of power,” Sanders said in a statement.

You do realize that a lot of men called for the same thing also, right? So why are you going after one woman?
