GOP candidate seeking Al Franken’s Senate seat busted for racist ‘chimp’ comments about Michelle Obama

A Republican state lawmaker compared former first lady Michelle Obama to a chimpanzee in an old Facebook post that has resurfaced as she seeks a U.S. Senate seat.

Minnesota Rep. Karin Housley made the racist remarks in April 2009, when Obama met Queen Elizabeth II, reported Huffington Post.

“Michelle is soooo far from cool,” Housley wrote on her personal account. “Don’t we expect our First Ladies to at least stand up straight? (And my dear sister, know the proper etiquette and DO NOT TOUCH THE QUEEN!).”

She compared the first lady to a chimpanzee in the 1951 film “Bedtime for Bonzo,” which starred Ronald Reagan, in a subsequent comment on her post.

“I do miss Nancy Reagan. Ronald even more. Speaking of Bedtime for Bonzo, I think even that chimp stood up straighter than Michelle,” Housley wrote. “Uh-oh, someone is going to make a comment.”
