On Edit: This is why I think people should be required to pass a safety test to use guns, just as they do to drive a car.

(36,440 posts)I suspect the range officer was picking up vibes and observing tells from the get-go; this was not his first rodeo.

(6,110 posts)usually there is no one watching you at gun range.
But regardless, it is really asinine to point a gun at
any other person. There could be a bullet left in the
magazine and accidents do happen. Guns are not a
toy! I wish everyone was required to have a license
to own a gun, with periodic exams for renewals just
like driver's license.

(10,877 posts)now Kansas has no requirement. Anyone over 21 can CC even if they have never touched a gun. Makes no sense.

(11,949 posts)And I drive over an hour away, passing many ranges to shoot at one with very strict rules and range masters who enforce them religiously.

(6,110 posts)I am always nervous at gun ranges because there are all these strangers with guns and plenty of ammo, and they don't check anyone's background. I usually go with my adult daughter, and we stay alert.
Luckily we don't hear many shootouts at gun ranges.

(11,738 posts)To purchase a firearm you have to take a safety test every 5 years. To pick up a fire arm you have to have a safety lock with a receipt and you have to demonstrate safe handling of the firearm. Mainly for handguns though. Should be for long arms too in my opinion. Those guys should be put on a list and be banned from owning or possessing, at least until they demonstrate fully that they understand the stupidity of their behavior.

(11,738 posts)There are some rules which I disagree with, but overall, California is not the ogre on gun ownership that the red states make it out to be.

(1,058 posts)although I haven't touched a firearm since my days in the Army, too many bad memories of the destruction they cause.

(17,984 posts)Where is clearly states eejits have the right to blow their buddy's brains out at the range.

(1,058 posts)Guns are not toys, they are deadly weapons and these fucking morons shouldn't be anywhere near a firearm.
First thing I learned in the Army when handling a firearm, always assume it is loaded and never, ever, point a firearm at anyone you aren't planning to destroy.

(182 posts)Based on my experience 90% of shooting enthusiasts are like the range officer, 1% are like the dumbasses and 9% are in between somewhere.
