I'm still so mad about Franken! I think this is what Gillibrand should have said, "Look, I would like to believe the women who are accusing Senator Franken of inappropriate behavior, but I can't blindly believe one side or the other. It needs to be investigated. I don't want to just believe one side and say that the other side is lying without a thorough investigation. And, unless an investigation is done, which Senator Franken is all for, we as the female Senators in Congress will not ask Senator Franken to step down."
I bet if Gillibrand had said this, that would have shut up Lee Anne Tweeden (or whatever her name was) and the other woman!

(7,509 posts)People will say Franken was overwhelmed by eight accusations, without ever looking into whether any of them were actually true.
THREE were by lying, two-faced trumpanzees who voted for the orange pussygrabber, despite their empty claims of being sexually assaulted. The ringleader Leann Tweeden has absolutely no credibility since she is a known birther.
Four accusations were anonymous, meaning Franken can't face those accusers. They may be one person as far as we know.
The last accusation, which put Gillibrand and the rest of the lynch mob over the edge, is the one from Tina Dupuy, who basically gave a dramatic account of Franken holding her at the waist during a photo-op
So, do you feel good that Franken got taken down by birthers, trumpanzees and obvious attention-seekers? I sure don't.

(3,344 posts)He was a tremendous Senator. I would have backed resignation if a thorough investigation found anything.
We will never forget this.

(1,074 posts)I'm bringing this up because I'm sick of our side not knowing how to fight. We don't have to fight dirty...we just have to fight with some common sense and strength! For all the outrage from the republicans over Franken, they certainly didn't give a s*it about Kavanaugh and look at where that got us....they just jammed him right through!

(13,259 posts)Its not just a matter of replacing one Democratic Senator with another. Franken was one of a small number of Democrats who had the fire, wits and skill to fight forcefully. His loss has been huge.

(54,387 posts)The Republicans KNEW there was nothing to the Franken accusations, since THEY were the ones who made them up. They also knew there was plenty to the allegations about Kavanawful, so they played those down and hid the rest.
Look at the two reactions. Franken had a very low key reaction to the allegations against him. Why? Because he knew better than anyone that there was nothing to them. He had no reason to mount a furious defense against bogus allegations, and figured his fellow Democrats had seen through them as well. What he misjudged was their willingness to cover their own asses "just in case," and finally Al had to come out with an weak apology for any perceived "offenses he may have committed." The Republicans smelled blood, and managed to turn their warning shot into a mortal wound--but only because the Democrats preferred to pour salt into it instead trying to heal it.
Kavanawful, on the other hand reacted with immediate fury and anger, slinging accusations in all directions. Now THERE is the angry wounded reaction of someone who was guilty and thought enough grass had grown over his deeds to be sure everyone had forgotten about them. The Republicans HAD to jam him through, or else risk the public finding out how much of the sick stuff he had been accused of was hard fact. Al Franken said "bring it on." Kavanawful said "for Pete's sake, don't let them near me!"

(1,483 posts)Still mad. He better not get on an elevator with me! Don't let the triple strand of pearls fool you.
Remember when Bush II stole that election? I'm still mad about that too!
We got postcards to write though. Supposedly that shit works even better than phone banks.

Most likely get burned to the ground for that comment. There is more here than we have seen.
