Possibly the last straw for khashoggi

[link:https://www.twincities.com/2018/10/11/jamal-khashoggi-saudi-arabia-wasnt-always-this-repressive-now-its-unbearable/|

When I speak of the fear, intimidation, arrests and public shaming of intellectuals and religious leaders who dare to speak their minds, and then I tell you that I’m from Saudi Arabia, are you surprised?

With young Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s rise to power, he promised an embrace of social and economic reform. He spoke of making our country more open and tolerant and promised that he would address the things that hold back our progress, such as the ban on women driving.

But all I see now is the recent wave of arrests. Last week, about 30 people were reportedly rounded up by authorities, ahead of the crown prince’s ascension to the throne. Some of the arrested are good friends of mine, and the effort represents the public shaming of intellectuals and religious leaders who dare to express opinions contrary to those of my country’s leadership. The scene was quite dramatic as masked security men stormed houses with cameras, filming everything and confiscating papers, books and computers. The arrested are accused of being recipients of Qatari money and part of a grand Qatari-backed conspiracy. Several others, myself included, are in self-exile and could face arrest upon returning home.

Voting and the preservation of democracy cannot be taken lightly this November, Democrat leaders need to do everything in their power to curtail cheating from the republican opponents, two more years of this administration with the accomplices in Congress and Senate will open the door for Saudi-like kind of behaviour.

I have to think that everyone here has read that the administration wants to get tough on protesters...that is step 2. Step 1 was to get a supreme court all in its favour...

I personally hope they find that their afterlife is everything the Quran promises because they will end up regretting even the least of their transgressions. But their actions tell me everything I need to know about how much they really believe in their profit...or did I mean prophet.

The money to support them came from their govt too, didn't IT?

Why are we even having "normal" relations with them.....money/oil? That is another reason to go with non fossil fuels to help slow Climate Change.

launch an economic-focused website to translate international reports into Arabic to bring sobering realities to a population often hungry for real news, not propaganda.

Jamal Khashoggi, a prolific writer and commentator, was working quietly with intellectuals, reformists and Islamists to launch a group called Democracy for the Arab World Now. He wanted to set up a media watch organization to keep track of press freedom.

More at link.....motive??? The US may have been complicit - Khashoggi should have been warned....

should heed his own advice and take the Saudi Oil fields and throw MSB and the whole crew out. Use the oil proceeds to feed the people who are denied the fruits of this national resource. I know, it sounds absurd, but Trumphole wouldn’t dare speak out against the hand that feeds he and Jared. He idolizes the Saudi royal family because of their wealth. It’s a disgrace that these so called “royal” families bathe in wealth as most of the country is poor. People so poor they turn to radical Islam because there are no opportunities in this wicked country.

Cheeto and Jared have taken huge bribes from the Saudi royal family.
So they're just following the Crown Prince's orders, same with Pootie's.
