The most popular Democrat in the country is about to go on a highly-anticipated book tour that is likely to remind the country of her political muscle.
Michelle Obama will talk to large crowds in arenas that hold rock concerts and NBA games. Shell appear all over the media, and sell more books, in all likelihood, than prospective 2020 candidates Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
But the former first lady is decidedly not running for president.
Absolutely not, she said in a Thursday interview on the Today Show before a large crowd of fans. I have never wanted to be a politician. It's one of those things that nothing has changed in me to make me want to run for elected office.
Unlike some politicians, there's no swaying the former first lady, Obama allies say.

(52,245 posts)She's genuine and comes across as a real person, and that's something even Barack couldn't pull off. He came across as an extraordinary person, comfortable in politics.
Michelle seems a bit uncomfortable in the limelight and that's so natural and relatable.
I think people would really like a president who never wanted to be in the spotlight.

What I want is a mild bureaucrat. Nothing more charismatic than a Chuck Rosenberg. Of any gender or ethnicity who will resolutely roll up their sleeves and just set to work of Reconstruction. I'm not gonna get that. Not until the "ISTJ Party" usurps the GOP. (Oh Hillary. If only, if only..)
If I can't have that, let's carve out some time with Kamala Harris for some glossy Vouge covers. (watch this space...)
Here's what I don't get about populism. Does anybody ever say, "I need a change. I'm going to go to the unlicensed pedicure place on the corner."

(65,061 posts)First, she was never a politician. Secondly, she saw how they treated her husband. She's not going to put herself through that, especially since she's never shown any ambition to be a high level politician.
She's been a great advisor and great representative of the country. She should be able to live the rest of her life in peace.
