(6,139 posts)there is a record number of voter registrations and new registrations in Texas this year. Turnout will decide the outcome. To me, this is the most exciting race, its not just that people all over the country like Beto but people truly hate cruz, he deserves the worst of karma and must be destroyed. There is a surprising silver lining in this race - the gop is now the party of white nationalists and its the alt right that decides the fate of republicans. Guess what, alt right is not at all excited about cruz due to the fact that he is of a cuban heritage whereas Beto happened to be white. This goes back to the gop primaries in 2016.
PearliePoo2
(7,768 posts)Are you saying the alt-right is so racist, they would rather vote for a white Democrat instead of a Cuban?
Good to hear about all the new registrations! Yeah baby!
Ted Cruz is about the most creepy guy on the entire planet. Seriously.

(6,139 posts)they just wont be energized for cruz and spread endlesss online propaganda for him so the enthusiasm gap is significant which may help Beto. I just donated to Beto, first time Ive never donated out of state. I would just be so happy if Cruz is defeated knowing I did my little part.
PearliePoo2

I live in Washington State and I've been donating to Andrew Janz in California hoping he can kick some Devin Nunes ass.

I love Beto, but I almost wish we could spread that money around where we have better chances in closer Senate races like AZ NV IND FLA

(56,828 posts)he is sending money all around the state for GOTV - it will help Beto, of course, but will help also with Democrats running for House seats and state level seats and local seats

But there is nothing stopping you from contributing to any of those campaigns.

(94,591 posts)More cash is not what Beto needs; your money is better spent turning out votes for competitive TX House races, which will generate up-ticket votes.
Gothmog
(145,291 posts)Beto is giving my county coordinated campaign committee $50,000 to GOTV. This will help Beto and the down ballot candidates in my county
brooklynite
(94,591 posts)AT THIS POINT he doesn't need more contributions.
Gothmog
(145,291 posts)We need a strong candidate at the top of the ticket. This is the last year that Texas has straight ticket voting and Beto is helping
Texas is a very expensive state to campaign in statewide

(1,765 posts)This money will help him gain more momentum and in return help down ticket ballots.

The CNN "debate" next week will be interesting. Cruz has refused to appear, but CNN is going to air the event anyway. One hour of O'Rourke.

(37,748 posts)Additionally, he is spreading to money to more localized races as well which will generate down-ticket votes.
But I get it... we many of us pretend absolute knowledge to the point we instruct others who to give money to and withhold it from. Televangelists do that as well.
"And THIS is why I find your instructions too often inaccurate, too often incorrect and too often without merit..."

(16,389 posts)Lots of pushing that narrative today in OPs. I prefer the rah rah posts. Not because I think we are sure bets to get the senate. Far from it. I prefer them because I know the motivation behind them. The motivation behind the doom and gloom posts is less clear, if you catch my drift.
JCMach1
(27,559 posts)Few of them will vote Beto, but I just wonder how many are going to show for Gov. Abbott who is popular at least with Republicans. Indy's and non-voters will swing this election... or, just people staying home. Dems don't show at the polls, we are always going to lose, anyway.

My math tells me that was an average donation of $48.00 per donor.

(7,768 posts)CNN Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash will moderate a live Senate town hall with Representative Beto ORourke (D) from the U.S.-Mexico border. The one-hour event on Thursday, Oct. 18 event will take place at the McAllen Performing Arts Center and will air live at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. Senator Ted Cruz (R) declined CNNs invitation to participate in the town hall.
Why would Cruz turn this down? I can't figure this out. This HAS to hurt him, don't you think?
sheshe2
(83,785 posts)He didn't do well on the first one. Maybe he thought the debate would be cancelled if he did not go. Huge mistake! Huge!
I am so glad CNN will devote the hour to Beto.

I hope Beto is grinning as much as we are!
Cruz would look like a real dork (which he is, of course) if he now said, "I've changed my mind, can I come now?"
Nice chatting with you!
Nice chatting with you as well, PearliePoo.

(32,457 posts)(NEWSER) Small-dollar donations have been the hallmark of the campaign of US Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke, who hasn't accepted PAC money in his attempt to grab Ted Cruz's Texas Senate seat. But like snowflakes that form an avalanche, all those more modest donations have converged to become what the Dallas Morning News says may be an "insurmountable" financial line for Cruz to reach. O'Rourke has crushed fundraising records and brought in $38.1 million from July through September, more than three times the $12 million raised by Cruz during the same three months. It's the country's most expensive midterms race, with the Morning News noting not even presidential campaigns typically bring in that much cash that quickly.
In total, O'Rourke has raised $61.2 million in 2018 to Cruz's $24.9 million. "No one could predict or expect it," GOP consultant Bill Miller tells the Morning News, calling it "beyond surprising." Two recent polls, however, show Cruz with a single-digit lead, though the Cook Political Report still says the race could go either way. "You could argue that at least some of that money would be more useful going to fellow Democratic candidates in red-leaning states ... [that] have a much better chance of winning than O'Rourke does," Amber Phillips writes for the Washington Post. A Democratic strategist shrugs that off, noting other Democratic challengers are still raising good money. "Obviously, money doesn't win elections," he tells the Morning News. "But being broke sure loses a bunch of them."

(7,572 posts)Beto's signs are stolen almost as soon as they are put up (especially the large ones in public places); mine at my house have been taken once; the Democrats in my town and county are REALLY engaged and working, more than I've ever seen. He won't win in this county, but if we have a huge turnout it could combine with other huge turnouts for a win. Fingers crossed! It's going to be tough, and close!

(938 posts)In my mostly rural, very red district, we are seeing a surprising demand for Beto signs, and our party office has had to get help from a neighboring county to keep up. Many are replacements for signs taken or destroyed.
If nothing else, Beto has made people more willing to show support for Democrats again. It's a good time to be us!
