Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAre there any national Dem efforts to boost Hispanic and youth turnout?
Just wondering if there are web sites that I could go to in efforts to help boost these two crucial Dem voting blocs.

(3,344 posts)At some point people themselves are responsible. If Hispanics don't vote under this Nazi regime, they never will.
Young people watch and laugh at Colbert's jokes and Maher's jokes, but don't show up to vote.

Go out, find a way to connect, find what will "hook" them, and use that hook to get them to the polls. That's how ward heelers get the name, wearing out their heels to make sure people show up and vote for their candidates.
Whether it should be that way is irrelevant. It is that way, it's always been that way, and when people forget that it's that way we lose ground.

Health concerns and other issues that take up their time.
But, if we have the resources to reach out to them, they are groups that will hear and be receptive to our message.

(90,346 posts)... outreach on the college campus they were on.
There are so many issues that affect college students that dems care about but the students looked disengaged.
The students lack of engagement looks to be in part because of lack of outreach.
I was wondering how much it would take to saturate that campus with a pro student message that would energize a movement there.
I was watching ways the Russians would stir crap up in countries and noticed they usually started with college aged students.

(14,249 posts)It has to be done locally, not on a national basis. There's a huge effort taking place at the local level with funding and support from the national and state parties. Colleges and universities ARE being saturated with information, activities, engagement efforts, speakers, etc.
These students that you saw on television aren't clueless and disconnected because they haven't been reached out to. Some people are just clueless and disconnected and all of the outreach in the world won't get to them. It's usually not until something terrible happens to them personally that they finally wake up and get their butts in gear.
I'm working with a lot of student groups at the local level and they're doing everything they can to reach their friends and classmates - pulling out all the stops - and are very frustrated with people like this, but there's not much more they can do. Every generation has pockets of kids like this - we did when I was their age and and at some point, we just had to stop trying to get water from a stone and focus on people who had at least a piece of a clue.
I wonder about these kids' parents. Who raised such self-involved and uninterested people?

(10,878 posts)The boost we are hoping for is educated white suburban women that are independent and swing back and forth between the two parties.
BumRushDaShow
(129,061 posts)And this is where that focus needs to be.
I always see many posts here on DU excoriating the black and hispanic vote and demanding more and more outreach while ignoring the white suburban women. Hoards go into black neighborhoods trying to get more and more blood out of turnips and I am literally getting at least half a dozen or more robocalls A DAY from phone banks... and I live in a part of the city that literally already has the highest voter turnout in the city - including during the typical low-turnout (10 - 11%) primaries.
There seems to be a big disconnect.
Sorry for the rant but it is really bugging me.

(14,249 posts)turnout without much more specific targeting and hope that will help us. It's just as likely we're turning out Trump voters.
BumRushDaShow
(129,061 posts)to be voters because certainly, the entire black community can't keep being the main ones to be targeted to come out to vote and then blamed when there is a drop-off, for whatever reason, while whole other communities are ignored. And they certainly don't have all the challenges that we have just to vote.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)But more persuasion has to be done on the front end before we just go out and ask them to vote since we need to be sure they're going to vote Democratic before we try to get them out to vote so we're not doing the Republicans' GOTV for them.
