WASHINGTONDonald Trump had his second-most-dishonest week as president last week, capping an extended run of egregious lying.
Trump had four campaign rallies and a press conference, giving himself ample time to say inaccurate things. He made 129 false claims in all, just shy of his one-week record of 133, which he set in August.
Trump also made 69 false claims the week prior. For September, he made 268 false claims, tied with June for third-most of any month. Trumps record is 321 for August, followed by 280 for July. In other words, all four of the last four months have been in his four most dishonest.
Among the most egregious lies last week were his lies about someone elses lying.
Trump repeatedly attacked Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who was found in 2010 to have falsely claimed he served in Vietnam rather than accurately saying he served in the Marine Corps Reserve in the United States during the Vietnam War. Attempting to exaggerate how big of a liar Blumenthal is, Trump invented an entire series of his own lies falsely insisting Blumenthal, whom he nicknamed Da Nang Richard and Da Nang Dick, had not only claimed to have been in Vietnam but that Blumenthal claimed to have said there were bullets going left and right over my shoulders and theyre hitting my men, that he went to the rescue of dying soldiers, and that he specifically served in Da Nang. None of this happened.
