Kanye West reminded me of something.

That is, we often do not have any idea about what is going on in each other's minds. I'm in agreement with those who think that his meeting with Trump was not really news-worthy, but there was something about it that I think was striking.

I learned that West was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder at some point. He then later claimed that he was misdiagnosed and stopped taking his meds. What we saw from him in the Oval Office appeared to me to be someone in full blown bipolar mania. The rapid fire way in which he was speaking is characteristic of someone experiencing racing thoughts during mania. He also claimed that he felt like Superman at one point which might also be a clue that he's feeling very energetic, charismatic, and powerful which are also possible expressions of mania. Then we get to the way he was describing Trump in these ways that are inconsistent with reality which could be a clue that he is experiencing delusions.

That kind of behavior can also be consistent with drug use, but I think West was stone cold sober when he met with Trump. What we saw there was someone in the throes of a terrible mental illness. There will be a down side to what West is experiencing and it will probably be quite severe.

I have personal experience with all of that because I also have been diagnosed as having bipolar disorder. It's nearly killed me on several occasions, although I've been mostly stable for a long time...mostly. Some of you may remember me having a meltdown on DU about a year ago. People told me that they were wondering what happened to me because I seemed so out of character at the time. It turned out to be bipolar mania.

By the way, October is National Mental Health Awareness Month. We have a mental health support group here at DU if you are interested.

I also believe that our president is hooked on cocaine, or some similar drug.

diagnosing someone online, but HE has said that he had previously been diagnosed with Bipolar 1. So, in that vein, I will agree with your assessment. I've had friends who have suffered through similar periods of mania, and it's always worrisome to me.

Add to that you've surrounded yourself with yes people who enable every delusion of grandeur that hits you, and this is the result.

He and Trump seem almost like two peas in a pod. They aren't dealing in the realm of reality that the majority of us are. (Every day life and struggles.) They're surrounded by sycophants and enablers. If mental illness is part of the equation (which I suspect it is), it's HORRENDOUS.

So, I will say, I hope Kanye gets the help and attention he needs. I didn't watch yesterday, though I saw clips about what was said. It's a national embarrassment, and it makes me SUPER uncomfortable that he may be being manipulated into this.

Please remember the day this interview took place the strongest hurricane in American hisistory hit the land mass of 48. Where was Donald Trump in that room with Kanye. What again is Trumps real day job? Kanye and his behavior although alarming does not begin to approach that of Donald Trump. For Donald Trump this is not his first dance. Puerto Rico was just devastated across the entire Island what happens Trump shows up and eventually throws paper towels? For an added bonus when confronted with death toll numbers months laterTrump denies them. A few cuss words, incoherent speech patterns, irrational thoughts are nothing compared to the deeds of the true master in that room.

My mom fell into a deep, delusional psychosis requiring a 6 month hospital stay a couple of years ago.

Watching and listening to his exchange with Trump felt very familiar, somehow. I don't think Kanye was fully in control of his faculties.
