"Hillary made me feel emasculated"

While I can't explain Kanye, I do know he's a grown ass man and makes his choices.

Maybe it's mental illness, maybe blaming mental illness is the wrong approach. Maybe he has been an asshole and cornball all along, and blaming mental illness is pathologizing his personality flaws.

Prior to 2016, Kanye was known to revel in being offensive. He lacked humility and a sense of boundaries. At times that produced some good art ( an opinion some won't share but art, after all, is a matter of taste, and I've enjoyed some of his work) Bucking social norms and being contrarian is nothing new for artists.

At times Kanye's antics have been amusing and good for dank memes, but what I'm seeing no longer makes me laugh.

His reasoning for supporting Trump was fucked up but honest. It's the most honest reveal from a Trump supporter I've ever come across:

It all boils down to: "Trump made me feel like a real man, and any focus on women emasculates me", it doesn't get more accurate than that when it comes to 2016.

See also:

"All this talk about black lives matter makes me feel uncomfortable so I'll vote Trump"
"All this talk about dreamers makes me feel left out so I'll vote Trump"
"All this talk about people who don't look like me is a waste of my time"

This is just my opinion of course, but I think that certain artists all share a common trait of some sort of mental issue going on. Look at all the really big ones and how strange they acted. Van Gogh, Hemmingway, Virginia Woolf, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, and even Anthony Bourdain.

I think the same demons that haunt them are the same demons that give them such a creative side.

That doesnt excuse Kanye in anyway, I just believe he has some sort of mental issues going on.

and Kanye had trash episodes before 2016.

What we also saw yesterday is how Trump attracts ( and manipulates) Broken people.

To think that this is the same Kanye who once rapped..

"I'm so appalled Spalding ball,
Baldin' Donald Trump, takin' dollars from y'all
Baby your fired, your girlfriend hired
But if you don't mind I'ma keep you on call
We above the law, we don't give a fuck bout y'all
I got dogs that'll chew a fuckin' whole through the wall" -

way back in 2010, possibly the best lyrical assessment of the Trump phenomenon I've ever heard before Trump became TRUMP.

I'm still uncomfortable just blaming "mental illness" for all this, but if Kanye is floridly ill I truly hope he gets the help he needs.

attention-seeking authoritarian, of course grabbing this opportunity to milk attention from of his acceptance of Trump as his leader, while mostly deflecting attention away from approval of Trump's despicable actions.

And don't they imagine Hillary's great for that. He could have just said "lock her up" but instead went for something equally hackneyed but very male directed. Sounded to me like he's seeking commonality with the white men who make up most of Trump's misogynistic mob.

And for the average Neanderthal, it’s regrettably their ignorant “truth”— unenlightened men no doubt feel threatened by the mere existence of informed, intelligent, capable, savvy women— instead, their brains short out with faulty information that’s been drummed in by an overbearing father, or some hyper-fundamentalist church pastor, or other weak-minded yet influential men.

It’s a big, simmering problem, you can see men (especially young men) falling behind and struggling in our culture. Economically and socially, they haven’t had any decent modeling or guidance, and they can’t get much traction, so they look for scapegoats, namely POC and women. And with the King Asshole in the WH, they’ve struck it rich: a prez who hates women and blacks and Mexicans, etc. He’s from the city but he’s a good ol’ boy.

But this “feeling threatened” or sadder yet, “emasculated” by sharp, capable women is a loser’s gambit. Anyone with half a functioning brain cell could grasp that womens’ time is finally coming around, and things as they are will be reconfigured. There will be MORE women as peers and superiors coming. As a man who’s utterly fed up with other men’s bullshit, I welcome more women into the everyday flow of life. And men? Adapt. Adapt or face extinction.

It sounds like self-absorbed hogwash to me.

Weirdo accosted Taylor Swift on stage in 2009.. now he's pimping for trump and Taylor is speaking out for Democracy.

It's Taylor Swift versus Kanye West again

snip//

Both Swift and West have had equally devoted fan bases, many of whom took sides back in 2009 when West infamously hijacked the microphone from Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Their ensuing bad blood spilled over in 2016, after a dispute over whether or not West cleared song lyrics about Swift with the singer.

Dancing about as condiments like intermission at the drive-in while chanting a forgettable rap is scraping the bottom of the creative barrel.

Unless one is named Alice Cooper wearing a costume is a cheesy gimmick that portends a rapidly spiraling career.

As far as I can tell he's just another bit of propaganda, trying to appeal to men who need to blame their problems on women. And 2016 boiled down to russian theft of our presidency. Doesn't get more real than that.
