(145,558 posts)There are rules that prohibit electioneering withing 100 feet of voting location and these rules applies to clothing that carries a political message or to candidates.
In 2008, a GOP candidate purchased 1000 toilet plungers (due to Joe the Plumber) and decorated them with ribbons and vote for McCain. The Obama voter protection team wrote the best memo on this https://electionlawblog.org/?p=97946
The Obama campaign issued a memo taking the position that plungers represent support for a political candidate and bringing them to the polling place was electioneering.
