Trump thinks the world is about him.
And Republicans, Democrats, Independents, believe the world is about them.
None of that matters. World climate doesn't give a damn about what humans believe or don't believe.
The wealthy have more protection against natural disasters because they can build stronger houses, or just walk away to some other place they own.
But you really can't ignore "Mother Nature." Humanity has been raping her for a couple of centuries now, and she's really pissed off.
By the end of this century, much of what we know to be the world will be underwater, or unable to grow crops, or won't have sufficient clean water, and/or will be trying to survive in conditions that we can't yet imagine.
And none of it has to do with Republicans, Democrats, Independents, bigots, racists, people who love "God," people who hate "God," people who don't believe in "God," or anything else that human beings believe in or don't believe in. Nature doesn't care what you believe.
Droughts, hurricanes, floods, and every other disaster that befalls us are getting worse. But, what the hell. Shit happens. Except that even though many humans deny it,or pretend to deny it, we are helping to make things worse.
Too bad that nature isn't selective. Too bad it doesn't just fuck "climate-change non-believers." But it doesn't work that way. People who are willfully fucking Earth's climate are fucking everyone and everything on the planet equally. (Seems that true democracy wins out in the end.)
Fools, from the Orange White House inhabitant on down better begin to understand that the world's climate is not a "political issue." It's a "survival of humanity" issue.
Nonetheless, you just know that most of those in power don't give a shit, as long as they can continue to hold that power. Reelection counts more than the survival of the human species. -- Or even their own families. -- They really aren't the same as the rest of us. -- Far too many of them continue to ignore the reality of climate change, even though they probably know better.
How much of a miserable swine do you have to be to care about your own political survival than the ongoing survival of the human species?

(35,091 posts)All well and everything but we need to start accepting the fact that critical damage has been done and the ball is rolling.
We need to make sure the people who will be first affected by this climate change are taken care of (coastal people / island peoples in the developing world). They are the people who have had a nil effect on climate change yet they will be affected first and worst... a cruel twist of fate if you will.
We need to make sure they have access to food, drinkable water, essential medicines, and infrastructure as well as communicating with them about terrain and agriculture loss.
