Not concern trolling
Just not feeling terribly optimistic.
Yes, yes, voting. Got that. We'll vote.
But Trump, for all his moral failings - heck, because of his moral failings - is a mastermind of hate and division. And he'll use anything to achieve peak hate and maximum division. Demonstrators have morphed into angry mobs. Fake bills are promoted as Democrat (sic) efforts to destroy America. We think that women, even Republican women, will either vote D or stay home. Maybe. But Laura Bush couldn't stop George from lobbying for the Kavanaugh vote. And we've all seen the video of women for Trump arguing that, hell, boys will be boys. And, of course, we have a system that has given us minority rule, where Senators from damn near empty states wield more power than Senators from the most heavily populated states in the nation. Voter suppression efforts have been largely successful, to say nothing of gerrymandering over the past several decades.
I fear that older and old white men and older and old white women will prevail, that they prefer fascism to democracy for the sole reason that they fear being outnumbered by blacks, Hispanics, and others of color, despite the reality that demographics are such that this is inevitable, and in my view welcome. Where men like Andrew Gillum in Florida and women like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sharice Davids have the opportunity to be elected to positions of influence. But fascism being what it is, Trump and his cult followers are going to pull out all the stops to ensure that this does not happen, at least not in the next ten years.
This should be sufficient motivation to GOTV, and this may very well happen. But an increasingly vile, violent, and organized extreme right wing is equally motivated to ensure that this won't happen.
Again, not concern trolling, just anxious. And maybe I gotta increase my meds and/or my daily dose of caffeine.
