There's one good reason to lay off Susan Collins for the next 12-18 months.

I don't want her to retire. I want her to seek re-election, and I want to see her give a concession speech on the same night as our 2020 nominee gives his or her victory speech.

I still relish the night Joe Lieberman lost the Democratic primary to Ned Lamont in 2006. Even after he won the general, I spent the next 5 1/2 years waiting to see him defeated once and for all by a solid Democrat like Chris Murphy. And I'm still pissed that Lieberman retired to spare himself the humiliation of losing.

I gave to that campaign before the vote, but now that it's done, I'm giving to Senate candidates in close races.
