General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsYesterday was a very bad day for justice.
First, Rod Rosenstein got on a plane with the person he is supposed to be investigating. On a two-hour flight to Florida, Donald Trump admitted that he talked with Rosenstein for about "45 minutes". Does obstruction of justice mean nothing?
Then, there was a late swearing-in of the new Supreme Court Justice. It was a partisan celebration. One expected Trump to talk about "my Supreme Court". He thanked McConnell, Grassley, and all the Republicans on the Committee for saving Kavanaugh from the "disgraceful" Democrats. Something was "disgraceful", but it wasn't the Democrats.
All Americans should be disturbed by the events of yesterday. The Supreme Court has become nothing more than a show dog for Donald Trump and the Mueller investigation has climbed in bed with the person being investigated for obstruction of justice. Sad.

(7,142 posts)this is a tough situation. Let me postulate a scenario; Rosenstein is fired, Sessions is fired and Trump puts in Lindsey Graham and Chris Christie. Bye bye Mueller investigation. I am also worried about Rosenstein, he did write the letter that was used to fire Comey, but then again Comey did some things he shouldn't have done.
I agree with you that there is no rule of law with Trump but I take solace in every day that Mueller is allowed to march on, "unrestrained." As bad as it was for Rosenstein to speak secretly with Trump for 45 minutes, the person who takes his place will certainly be much worse.

But, I think there is a strategy in place that requires Rosenstein to be fired. That would be the nail in the coffin for any obstruction charges, in my opinion.

(49,013 posts)Trump was going to speak with Rosenstein in the White House two weeks ago. Nobody here at that time said that was improper for a president to speak with a direct report (since Sessions is recused). tRump stated he delayed it because of the Kavanaugh hearings and vote.
That it took place on the plane was no more secret than if it were in the Oval Office.

(111,104 posts)...that there is no difference in a meeting at the White House and a meeting on the plane?
Why does it feel different?
Is there any record of the meeting? Should there be?

(49,013 posts)Further, Rosenstein is NOT investigating tRump. Nor has he shown any sign of firing Mueller, replacing him, or terminating or interfering in the Special Counsel investigation.
Do not panic. Resist and persist. The sisters are persisters. Be like them.

(49,013 posts)Yes, tRump wants to fire Rosenstein.
Republicon Congress wants to fire Rosenstein or impeach him. They tried to gin up an excuse with the documents over the FISA warrant.

(111,104 posts)Do you think it is possible that Rosenstein wants Trump to fire him? As a catalyst to file final charges with the Attorney General? I think there is some complex maneuvering behind the scenes.

(111,104 posts)But a major factor is that Trump wants to fire Rosenstein. What did they discuss on AF1? Does it not matter? Is it none of our business??
