(10,085 posts)I may even be willing to fly to Maine to help canvass, phone voters, send emails, etc. Whoever runs against her may want to look at Beto ORourkes playbook. Whether he wins or loses, he has made more progress toward election as a Democrat in a red state than any Democrat in decades. His early plan to visit every single county in the state and hold meetings just to listen was a good one. Maine also has a lot of rural counties and constituents who probably have never seen a political candidate in person. Betos email outreach, hosted meetings at peoples homes, and rallies at local restaurants (good for business and those who want a few nachos and beer with their speeches!) all helped get his message to people.
Locally, in my Congressional district, an Indivisible group has been great at communicating with voters about time and location of rallies, how to protest to Congress (as on the ACA repeal), and candidate information. My House member refused to hold town halls (claiming that he represents only Republican voters), so this group announced a town hall for him and used a full-size cardboard image of him as a stand-inand claimed they got better answers from the cardboard image! They invited the local television news to cover the event, which they did, and proceeded to ask the questions they wanted Representative Williams to answer.
Food for thought for the Maine election.
