My God, Susan Collins actually said this today .......

I have to agree with Digby here.. just shoot me now!

And we can finally rid ourselves of that fake narrative that Collins is some kind of 'moderate' Republican. She has now sealed her place in history as the single person responsible for the most conservative and corrupt Supreme Court in US history ..........

SEN. SUSAN COLLINS: "The one silver lining that I hope will come from this is that more women will press charges now, when they are assaulted," the Maine Republican tells @FaceTheNation

I don't understand why anyone gives her any benefit of the doubt. Collins is not being pressured by McConnell to do anything. She is fully complicit. Her moderate act is fake. She only votes against her party when her vote isn't needed. They are strategic votes that McConnell allows her to take in order to fool her constituants into thinking she is a moderate so they will keep voting her in.

I don't think she will run again anyway, she wants to cash that Koch Brothers/Federalist Society pay check.. and now she has a warchest waiting on her opponent and that gives her 3.5 million more reasons to not run

But I wish she WOULD run, and instead of retiring she gets thrown out at the ballot box. Grrrrrrh!!!

Vermont has Sanders and Leahy. New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware all have 2 Democratic Senators.

Meanwhile, Maine has Angus King and Susan Collins. In addition to promising she would end her Senate career after 2 terms and repeatedly pissing people off with her "I only pretend to be a reasonable person" act, Collins also comes across as being pretty damn stupid. Yet she won her last election by 37 points. And she won in 2008 by more than 20 points, even though Obama took the state by 17 points. I guess all I'm saying is that Maine ought to be able to come up with a candidate who can beat Collins.

Sun Oct 7, 2018, 09:44 PM
Oct 2018

Does she really think after the debacle of the past few weeks that women will be MORE likely to come forward? If anything, they will probably be more inclined to keep it quiet and take it to their graves. She should be ashamed of her part in all of this madness but sadly, she still thinks she is on the right side of the issue. As a survivor of a sexual assault, I can assure her that you never ever forget the person who did that to you. Even if it was a long time ago. You may lose some of the finer details but the actual assault is seared into your memory like it was put there with a branding iron. So, no....Dr. Blasey-Ford is not mixed up in her facts. Susan Collins is mixed up in her logic on just about everything to do with sexual assault and its aftermath.

In two days, I am going on a much anticipated Viking River Cruise in France to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I hope I can separate myself from all of the political shenanigans that I’ve followed closely since well before the 2016 election. Things have gone steadily downhill since tRump’s stolen election and I am worn to a nub worrying about things that should not be in doubt.....like our Democracy and the trustworthiness of our governing bodies. So I think I need and deserve a break from it for a while. Enough is enough.

P.S. My husband and I mailed in our ballots as one of the last things we did before we left home. So that is already done. I know my vote won’t keep Matt Gaetz (the little weasel) from being re-elected, but I have some hope that my vote FOR Gillum will help elect him as Gov and my vote for Bill Nelson will make sure Rick Scott never gets to see the inside of the Senate side of the Capitol.
