(111,098 posts)I do, is it now restricted by party?
ZZenith
(4,122 posts)The only restriction is your own conscience.

(38,958 posts)I certainly didn't want to offend You or any of those on this board by my use of such a service to keep up with friends, family, local libraries, museums and several hobby groups.

(4,122 posts)I have decided not to supply income to those who throw parties to celebrate the promotion of rapists to the highest court in the land.
We all have different ethics, I understand.

(149,627 posts)And so are many other good Democrats. I stay in touch with my poetry friends, my family, and lots of other good people.
I don't have any Trumpers as friends either.

(38,958 posts)But, they are for the most part silent on political things. It does require a bit of maintenance, but silencing the source behind an offensive post is usually all it takes to keep the newsfeed clear. As you mentioned there are many good Democrats there and a life beyond all things political.

(10,168 posts)(20 days to go) for calling Tomi Lahren a white trash POS for saying bad things about Michelle Obama. I said she wasn't fit to even talk about Michelle and they banned me for a month. I was banned for a month before the 2016 election too for posting an anti-Trump political cartoon that was major newspapers. They said it was hate speech.
Truth be told, I have no fricking idea who Tomi Lahren is, except I remember it was in the news that someone threw water on her.
My family is on FB and so are high school buddies from the 60's, so I stay. I won't be friends with anyone who is Republican. My only rule.

(6,044 posts)Using Facebook is like making a contribution to Donald Trump and the Republican Party and Vladimir Putin and the great cause of election corruption.
Many of the local clubs use social media, FB included, to relay information to those who.don't attend meetings but follow them.
FB is also a good way to help newcomers know about the clubs, meetings, actions, etc.

(81,297 posts)Might just be a good idea to IGNORE all Facebook ads and other online stuff trying to lead you toward one opinion or other. Might be smart just to assume the Russians are trying to fuck with your head.

(34,170 posts)Anti-heroes are bad people, but some people love them because they protect the people from those they perceive as worse people.

(38,958 posts)just like this board is a vehicle or tool for news and/or discussion. It is no more and no less. How one uses it or does not is entirely their prerogative as long as one remains within the TOS for that service.

(38,958 posts)The museums I like, what the library events are coming up, 6mm war gaming, photography or the historical preservation group I work with, then I guess I have been compromised.

(111,098 posts)..my niece made a FB page so the family could stay in touch. It sounded like a wonderful idea to me.
Then it got more and more political and we were made aware that our old friends were on the opposite side of the spectrum. The best rule for Facebook would be to require no discussion of religion or politics, but that might raise constitutional issues?
It's a tough sea to navigate.

(38,958 posts)They have a hide post feature just as does this site. People who are relentless with their political posts can be snoozed or unfollowed, just as they can be blocked here. If it doesnt work for you and this one does, whatever works, but I find that my hobby groups and local museums tend to post more there.

(10,053 posts)While I only have a small handful of "facebook friends" (who are actual friends in real life or relatives) and almost all of them are Democrats- I have a few folks who are repugs that sometimes post something pro-trumpy so those posts are hidden, and I only see pics of their puppies or kids or grandkids. I only joined FB so I could stay connected to my out of state or oversees friends/family and so far so good...

(38,958 posts)by hiding the source of the Memes (and most of them are just Memes) that it cleans up the news feed rather quickly as those posting such items tend to rely upon the same sources. If the "X" Meme page is hidden all of those posts by them and their friends who will also likely repost them simply go away. It takes about few days to a week and a little upkeep here and there, but I have really no problem at all and never see the crap much anymore.
