(36,440 posts)Yet Reagan, as a politician, developed a strong anti-union position; Ed Asner never wavered on his pro-union position.
There's a lot to like about Ed Asner.

(83,785 posts)His activism was apparent in his role as Lou Grant.
Thanks, Buzz.

(36,440 posts)and it got him in hot water a couple of times, but he prevailed. He can be on my team any time he wants to.

(22,977 posts)Dick Van Dyke talked about how she would quietly tolerate he and Carl Reiner's liberal viewpoints when they worked together.
I still admired her and I LOVE Ed Asner. He's 88 and still going strong.

(36,266 posts)Reagan had been given a producer's position, which is a conflict of interest for actors. He engineered a settlement with the fledgling TV networks that enabled them to broadcast old movies for a pittance, leaving all the older actors with almost no royalties for airing of their old movies (contracts were written before TV came along, so didn't have any limits on that) -- actors were fighting for their fair share of TV revenues for work done before the age of TV, and Reagan sold them out. He had thrown in his lot with managment, vs labor, knowing that his acting career was on the skids by that point.
When I was a kid, you could see reruns of Marx Brothers and Bob Hope movies almost any day of the week on local TV -- in the afternoons, evenings, even mornings. They were cheap material to fill any open time slot and sell lots of local commercials. Bob hope complained that he didn't get any payment for those -- he was well-off only because he had invested in CA real estate at the right time.

(3,076 posts)... I always wondered how it came about that after/before a certain time that actors did not get paid any, "residuals", for their work.

(3,115 posts)All the way to the White House. Just like Murder Monkey and Dumpster. This shit started a loo-o-ong time ago and has only recently gone into fruition with the ideal stooge -- the orange piece of shit currently taking a Dump in the White House.

(81,304 posts)I just got back from our Indivisible groups bimonthly Postcard Party. We had to add two more tables to make room for everybody who showed up! Biggest turnout since I joined there in late January.
One of the women there has been volunteering at the nearby Democratic campaign office and has been complaining that she winds up just sitting there all day with no phones ringing and nothing much going on. Not yesterday, though! Not by a long shot! She said it was a madhouse all day!

(8,361 posts)tell you its 50/50, it is not. Americans also know by great numbers that citizens united is killing off democracy.
