The last couple of weeks must have been hell for survivors of incest.

Girls and boys who were sexually abused by family members not just once, but many times...

I know a woman who was adopted at the age of 4. She was raped by her adoptive father and brothers from the age of 10 until she ran away from home at 14. She told the authorities of the sexual abuse. The male family members denied everything and told the investigators that she was mentally ill and said crazy things all the time. She was committed to a mental institution for 2 years and became an emancipated minor at 17.

She never finished high school. She has always been poor. She is anorexic. She is an alcoholic and suffers from PTSD. She was broken by sexual abuse, and by the fact that NOBODY BELIEVED HER until she was an adult. She is fragile, and thinks of herself as crazy.

She maintains a sibling relationship with one of her brothers, because its the only family she has.

Sadly, I don't think her story is terribly unusual. And I think the events of this week, just made life worse for people like her.
