It is overwhelmingly backed by by Democrats and it is also backed by Republicans by 52%

It is the biggest Red Meat policy statement used to get the Evangelicals into the voting booths. Without their support the GOP dies and withers on the vine.
Most importantly it's overturn would super charge the Democratic party and most Independents.
The GOP knows this and somehow with the upcoming blue wave on the horizon I cannot imagine them winning Nationally for years if it is over turned.

(906 posts)I think it might be kinda like the ACA
They really dont want to get rid of it but they need to say it to those people who only will vote for them if they destroy everything that gives people choices.
Anyhow the vote would be like that and in the last second one will do the I cant believe it thing and vote in favor of keeping it.
At least I hope so!
Gotta keep the hope up!

(10,021 posts)Fetal pain, heartbeat (and perhaps even something totally non-scientific like fetal "soul" ) laws will be passed and upheld by the Supreme Court, as will extra restrictions on providers and facilities (changes to admitting privileges, arbitrary changing inspection requirements, changing insurance requirements) and burdens on women seeking abortions (waiting periods, psychological investigations, multi-step processes and additional paperwork and filing fees and unnecessary medical tests pre and post abortion, etc.) will be upheld. Centers will continue to close their doors.
Abortion may remain legal but essentially non-existent to those without the means to travel to a state that still has abortion providers or foreign country
It is also interesting to note that the GOP is also proposing to eliminate mandatory maternity/prenatal/female reproductive care from health insurance policies, eliminate contraception coverage, and the conservatives continue to attack nutrition, education, and housing support for those in need.

(6,457 posts)In reality they do not care about the life only how it can be used against women. Think no Abortion, no contraceptives, why would any company invest in a woman when she can become pregnant and becomes a drag on the company. With no viable job, bankers can refuse to give her a loan, refuse to give her a mortgage, refuse her a credit card. To obtain all these things she of course needs a husband, without or someone to cosign for her. Divorce will end, hopefully Mexico will still be an option, Life could get even worse for women, the Republican meanness has been shored up with all the "Wins"

(4,835 posts)Roe is the tool the Republicans have used to manipulate a certain, useful segment of their base - this is really nothing new...they don't want to overturn it - and give up that carrot.
But - then you have to ask - why do they want BK so badly?

(11,606 posts)No other reason. The list they had was 15 deep and everyone was groomed to be a Scalia Clone.

(8,252 posts)There will always be conservative state legislatures that will try their best to chip away at it. States will enact strict abortion laws that they know will be challenged with the goal of it to be heard by a conservative majority Supreme Court.
