Trump just making stuff up: "Every single Democrat in the U.S. Senate has signed up for the open borders - and it's a bill. And it's called The Open Borders Bill. What's going on? And it's written by - guess who - Dianne Feinstein."

What I think happened here: Trump's prepared text included his usual language about Democrats signing up for an "open borders agenda," but Trump decided mid-sentence to lie that there is a bill called The Open Borders Bill.

8. I've said it here before

Trump is going to go for revenge on Feinstein. He's going to urge Republicon voters in California to vote for de Leon in the Senate election next month. His reasoning will be that with either candidate, California will have a "nasty socialist" as their Senator, but at least de Leon has not tried to undermine Kavanaugh.

If he does that, will there be enough GOP voters, combined with the Democratic voters already in favor of de Leon, to tip this in his favor?

"it's called The Open Borders Bill" - called that by who? 3 guesses. why yes, it's Trump Himself.

the idea is, he can get people talking about it with his branding, get the topic trending with his branding, get it associated with Sen. Feinstein with his branding, and then the GOP rolls us in November.

he wouldn't do shit like this if it didn't work for him.

we obsess over its truth value, without noting that the Trumpists' truth is largely derived from Trump's branding efforts. he's calling this shot, and now the media has to cover it because it's something the president said. responsible networks will quickly note it as a falsehood and move on, but even in doing so they'll help spread the manure, and the Fox & Friends morning show will cover it extensively.

Trump's hope is that in 3 weeks there will effectively be "The Open Borders Bill" written by Sen. Feinstein, whether there actually is one or not.

until we find a way to counter this tactic, it will hurt us over and over again.
