Let me put that another way

Somebody talk me down from the ledge.

Pretty much every worst-case scenario that we envisioned under a Trump regime either has already come to pass or is poised to take effect, and I am DESPERATE for someone--anyone--to point me toward the bright side. What is it? Where is it?

I live in a Trump-loving county in Trump-voting Pennsylvania, which is well on its way to electing a science-denying mini-Trump governor to complement its Trump-loving state legislature, and there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop any of it. My Trump-enabling Republican Senator doesn't give a shit about the people of Pennslyvania, because his owners have bought and paid for him many times over.

I am NOT a concern troll. Rather, I am fucking terrified, and if that seems inconvenient or uncomfortable for you, then help me see the way out---please!

My state also has one Democratic Senator. There is hope. And the GOP I think is sowing the seeds of its destruction because they are going to go TOO FAR. When people start feeling it personally, the discontent will bring change if we can't do it before then.

that anyone progressive will be elected. Most of those people, however, live near other places where such a person might be elected, with strong support. The way I see it, you can either move to a place where you're more likely to be represented by progressive people, or work hard near where you live to get a good result.

Simply giving up is another option, but one I can't recommend.

Politics is difficult. Politics is cyclical. Politics changes. You can control only what you do and how you feel. If you're depressed about likely outcomes, shift your focus on a place where a different outcome can be realized and put your energy into that.

Many election races in this country are close. It is in those races that effort can result in victory. Where the race is not close, a good result may be impossible. So, focus on change where it is possible. Cumulatively, races won contribute to overall success.

That's my advice.

Consider this: if the GOP were competent at governing, they would have converted us to a fascist state in the first year they owned the House, Senate, and White House.

8 of 10 people around me are trumpers. McCONnell and RanDUMB are the senators for my state. Bevins -- test case for GOPers' worst experiments -- is governor of my state.

You want a bright side? They have awakened millions of voters who have previously considered voting too big a bother. They have enraged millions of voters who are looking for payback. In the previous national election, there were over 100 million eligible voters who didn't make the effort. Since then, records have been set for new registrations and a not insignificant slice of that 100 million have concluded that maybe voting matters.

Hang in there.

In my state, Gretchen Whitmer is kicking Bill Schuette's ass. Michigan WILL have a Democratic governor next time around (plus, we will retain Senator Stabenow's seat)!

And anyone who accuses you of being a concern troll is an arse.

There is an election in a matter of days. That election is coming while women are still freshly pissed off. No, we can't fix all the bad shit--it's not going to stop as long as that festering orange anus in riding around in Air Force 1, and beyond that--but we can start systematically kicking out every one of the ones who have aided and abetted in this heinous fuckery.

We are coming for them, there are a lot of us, and we are pissed off. Every woman that said MeToo, every man that knows or loves a woman who has been harmed, every parent, every kid who ever saw mom victimized, anybody tired to death of being told "What you say doesn't matter" is now watching the victory laps and the affirming votes. We know who they are and we are making our list. We will remember, and we WILL vote.

There is a danger here. We cannot plead that we are tired and we cannot give in to the frustration. The continued body shots have taken a hard toll, but we are still alive to fight another day. That's what we have to hang onto. Cry if you need to--I certainly have--rage if you can, then organize. Lead the way for the ones coming up now. Cheer them on, teach them how, hold them when they cry in frustration. We owe that to ourselves and to our children.

10. Can you find an Indivisible group in your area?

We’re going to have to struggle, from the ground up, and it will take much longer than we want it to. And our side tends to get discouraged easily. It doesn’t help that we seem never to get out of the loss column.

Please consider the Indivisible movement. One of their best bits is to meet, physically, with our reps. House, Senate, and in many cases, at the state level. Face-to-face, at least with the staffers, who take notes and ask questions, and acknowledge, and engage.

I tell you, dear Orrex, the solidarity is like balm for the soul. As I write this, I’m about 20 minutes from driving over to my Indivisible group’s chair’s house. Every weekend our little sub-group gets together to write the Call to Action email that goes out the following Tuesday to all our members and friends in other local/regional groups. It features an action-a-day about which to call our reps, and also a list of events and campaign activities during the We now dovetail with the state Indivisible group on Tuesdays, and more.

It’s a lot of people of like mind, and in my experience with two different Indivisible chapters in two different states. It’s also majority female, as I’ve discovered. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if some (or many) of them are survivors of sexual assault or abuse. The movement is a direct outgrowth of the huge nationwide Women’s Marches in January 2017.

And they DO things. Since I’ve joined Indivisible, I’ve participated in, and even set up, meetings with our state assemblyman and also one of our Senators. I’ve canvassed for candidates. I’ve joined Postcard Parties where we send postcards to our reps about various issues, and to other voters in other states to remind them to vote. The last time I attended a Postcard Party, we also wrote out postcards that had been supplied to us by the ACLU.

Seriously. DO IT. It’ll help lift you out of at least a few of your doldrums. It will put you in touch with other activists who share your frustration and discouragement, and are resolved not to be passive about it. It will make you feel like you’re doing something to effect positive change. When our chair was preparing to be interviewed on local radio, she wrote up an outline about our group and what it’s accomplished. I was really surprised at how long the list was - of bills in which we turned our DINO congressman’s vote OUR way instead of what he was leaning toward doing.

And it will confirm to you that you’re NOT alone in how you feel. Heartily recommended!

But we’ve got a BIG job ahead. What the bad guys are accomplishing now, they’ve been relentlessly working toward for 40 years. They have a 40-year head start that we need to reverse.

I am working hard to turn Texas blue but I have an idiot for governor and US senator. I am really hoping the Beto and the LT governor. In Texas the Lt. Governor is actually more powerful than the governor and Mike Collier has a chance as does Beto
