she was confused about the person who assaulted her. So say many Republicans.
How would you mistake a person who you already knew, and whose name you already knew, and who was face to face with you pinning your body to a bed under his body? How is that even possible?
Anyone who says she is credible but mistaken about her attacker's identity is making an incomprehensible, nonsensical statement to cover for their unwillingness to recognize the truth when it is staring them in the face.

(40,213 posts)Its an excuse they are using to try to convince themselves that they are decent people. Theyre telling themselves this so they dont have to admit to themselves that they really dont care.

(25,111 posts)They needed him on the bench before the mid term, and that's all that matters.
But this time, the truth will come out about sexual assaults and lies under oath. GOPers as well as t-rump kills everything that is good.
Apparently the secret hold on one copy of the FBI investigation document says otherwise and that Dr. Ford in fact was assaulted but GOPers say another did it bullshit.

(29,213 posts)I remember... my brother (once... next time I threatened him with a knife... he was 16 and I was 10). He left me alone after that.
another time was my high school girlfriend... but she just wanted be to be quiet in her bedroom because her dad came home early.
And that's it... nobody else every tried to choke me or cut off my air accidentally or on purpose.

(22,486 posts)I couldn't breath. I was in a complete panic. I know what Dr. Ford meant by, "inadvertently kill me" because that is what I thought was going to happen to me.
I'm 60 now and I still get that panicky fear when I think about that time. And I'm sure it was only seconds long that she held her hands there.
I think that is what really did damage to Dr. Ford's emotional state.

(36,109 posts)I watched her testimony and I believe her. And I hope she's not reliving the same anguish she once experienced hearing now of Kavanaugh's confirmation
But she was used. They had PLENTY of reasons to vote against him - missing documents, perjury, involvement with GWB - Iraq - Patriot Act - unitary executive etc
She was used as cover. They knew they were going to confirm him.
One wonders just how much dirt these rightwing fuckers have on every last one of our elected reps

(205,664 posts)People stepped up and contacted the FBI to give them information that backed her up, but they were never interviewed. This was already a done deal, unbelievable as that is - that this was the nominee they wanted.

(51,614 posts)during their entire lives and some men are assaulted and never tell either (look at the victims of abuse by priests). Do the math...33% of people are sexually assaulted. How many men do you see in the GOP and this fake prez's admin? A ton! Continue with the math...how many of all of those men have probanly assualted a person during their lives...a lot more than just Kavanaugh! A lot, lot more!

(108,980 posts)who blamed herself for having a beer and getting into that situation, so she just got out of the house as quickly as possible.
The handful of drinking teens in the living room were having a good time with each other and didn't notice her leave. That's very easy to imagine. These were teens. Drunk, self-absorbed teens, in a very casual gathering.
She didn't tell anyone at the time because she was ashamed, and then she bottled up the feelings because that's what victims often do. It hurts too much to think about what happened. It feels easier to rationalize -- "at least they didn't rape me" -- and go on.

(3,425 posts)I would just like to add just a few more words Those who claim that she is very credible but mistaken, are just lying morons in this conversation. What more maddening is that we gave air time to a drooling idiot trying (and now apparently succeeding) to claim one of the highest offices in our land. We were deprived of our right to take the time to look into his dark side.
While this is a scary twist in our democratic society. More so is the fact that we will have to wait until the next election and hope that we will, at least, win the right to power sharing. Then and only then can we make the views of the majority heard.
I think we need to line our laws up much closer to true democratic ideals

(6,535 posts)it's a handy line they can use and have their dumbass constituency parrot it when confronted about this farce.
Well, if nothing else, I officially give up on expecting anything at all from any approach to dealing with these fuckers that involves them being expected to be reasonable in any sense. I've probably said this before...but this just seals it for me. At this point I expect any Republican in any circumstance to be an unreasonable asshole, with whom there's no point interacting in any way. These morons just need to be defeated; there's no sense in trying to engage them whatsoever.
