Why do comedians tell more truth than TV news?

1. Legalities. The same reason you won't hear many news anchors calling him a "liar"

News sources can get their asses sued. You can't sue a show or comedian for so little.

2. Television news outlets are more concerned with balance than they are with the truth.

They do not care if the right half of the scale is full of craziness, stupidity, dishonesty, cruelty and criminality just so long as the right is given a voice in the process.

3. I think part of the problem is that Republican malfeasance is so commonplace.

Republicans are so vile and so corrupt that their vile and corrupt acts don't constitute "news."

They've kidnapped and caged children, treated those who commit sexual assault as persecuted victims and repeatedly made overtly bigoted statements. And the general reaction is, "Meh."

And then there's the fact that the infotainment industry is all about making money. So, they push false equivalencies, horse race narratives and the notion that all statements are equally valid opinions (no facts, no lies; only opinions).

5. Cable News is not news, it's entertainment and propaganda

And corporate network news isn't too far behind it, however if you watch real news such as PBS, BBC, CBC, est, it's really not bad.

And are able to not only recognize "truths" but can convey them out effectively.

7. Both CNN & MSNBC anchors have said that they don't want to overuse the word Liar

...because it would lose its impact.
