by Dan Rascon
Friday, October 5th 2018
(KUTV) -- In an unprecedented and shocking move The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has renamed the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir after a more than 150 year history.
The 360-member voice choir that has played for 10 presidents including seven presidential inaugurations, and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, will now be called The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
The Church says the change is being made to better align with the Choirs sponsoring organization. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This historic announcement comes after the Church issued a statement from its new President Russell M. Nelson, back in August on how to refer to the organization, asking members to drop Mormon and LDS when speaking of the Church. Faithful Latter-day Saints look to Pres. Nelson as a Prophet, Seer and Revelator.

(94,745 posts)1. Considering that LDS used to run ads as "The Mormons", I'm not clear where this renaming comes from

they've spoken to advertising types about "rebranding".

the republican/conservative idea of naming organizations something they are not.

Gee, even I went to see them practice, back in 1994. Their Thursday night practices were open to the public. It's just one of those things you do when you're in Salt Lake City.
