Young people who came of 'political age' during Trump era likely to be Democrats, says pollster
Pollster Emily Ekins said on Wednesday that young people who came of "political age" during the Trump era will likely be Democrats for the rest of their lives.
"The political events that take place can have a lasting impact, particularly on young people, people who are between the ages of 18 to 24," Ekins, polling director at the Cato Institute, told Hill.TV's Joe Concha on "What America's Thinking."
"And so the people who have become of political age during Trump's presidency, I think, will be forever more Democratic throughout their lives," she continued.
"So even if the Republican Party has a comeback with young people, this cohort will forever be disillusioned with the Republican Party, and that will continue onward," she said.
President Trump has relatively low approval ratings among millennials.
A new American Barometer poll, conducted by Hill.TV and the HarrisX polling company found that only 38 percent of 18-34 year-olds approved of Trump's job as president, while 62 said they disapproved.
