I stayed up late last night watching the hearings. I'm just blown away. They have been fighting so hard to stop this nomination and they were thwarted at every turn, but never gave up. Just kept hammering the committee, restating their objections, demanding an FBI investigation, pointing out the unfairness of the GOP process, filing lawsuits, speaking publicly outside the hearing, taking a stand for this country.
Sheldon Whitehouse even vowed to keep investigating Kavanaugh if his confirmation does go through. Cover ups don't last, he said. No they damn sure don't.
This is my official THANK YOU to our Democratic leadership. Thank you all for fighting for us and for this country. I don't know what the outcome will be but whatever it is, I know you did your best to stop Kavanaugh.
Here are the leaders I want to thank -- please let me know if I am leaving anyone out and I will add them:
Kamala Harris
Sheldon Whitehouse
Cory Booker
Diane Feinstein
Mazie Hirono
Amy Klobuchar
Patrick Leahy
Chris Coons
Dick Durbin
Richard Blumenthal
Jeff Merkley
Special thanks also to Ana Maria Archila and Maria Gallagher! Two brave women who turned the tide!
Another special thanks to Bernie Sanders! Lying to Congress is a federal crime!
Honorary listing for Sen. Flake for getting involved and listening to reason.
?
Christine Blasey Ford, who will go down in history as one of the bravest women ever to face the man who assaulted her. God bless her.
Deborah Ramirez, who came forward when it would have been easier to stay silent.
Julie Swetnick, the victim of Kavanaugh's friends who saw him lining up to rape defenseless women.

(844 posts)They take a lot of criticism fair and unfair at times but here they absolutely have done their best for the country. However this shakes out I know that they did what they could to get to the truth!

(53,410 posts)They fought their hearts out, but I think that they also showed a great deal of unity with a concerted plan.

(2,410 posts)I'm starting to think about rejoining the Democratic Party after more than ten years as an indy. I don't want my party to play dirty, but I do want them in the game, and this group, especially Mr. Coons, is certainly right there, despite very long odds!
Of course, let's not forget Anna Maria Archila and Maria Gallagher who picked up the gauntlet in what seemed to be the 13th hour.

(33,561 posts)...once claimed that perjury was an impeachable offense.
Now, of course, their views are situational. It's not like they have anything against sexual assault. Their asshole-in-chief bragged about it on tape, and they still have their noses up his ass.
If we love our country, the Republican party and its league of racist sexist hate mongers will die - hopefully to be replaced by sane opposition - and we will have cause to impeach a Supreme Court justice for perjury.
This may be unprecedented, but we've come close before, for an offense lots less serious than attempted rape, in the case of Abe Fortas, who resigned in 1969 because of a bribery scandal rather than face impeachment.
If Kavanaugh makes it to the court, he won't be able to stay there, if we stick to our guns, as our leadership is clearly doing.

(7,639 posts)At least for the most part, which they've not always done - they were more organized. The GrOPers are usually the ones that do that.
I'm amazed and proud of our leaders on this one.

(51,630 posts)while I was listening to the Dems speeches as they took turns with the GOP senators. I muted the GOP speeches and called their local offices from this EASY link...click on it, click on the senator's name/picture, go to their contacts and call their local or DC offices. I was able to call 10 of them in 15 min. I got through to 4 staffers at the local offices. After Flake's announcement I called the rest. You don't have to be a constituent to call and say, "Thanks for all the work you do for Dems everywhere". The staffers are always surprised...not enough people praise, instead they complain. I even say, " The people on the site Dem Under. are so grateful for everything you do for us".
Here is the link to get their info to contact them...

(51,630 posts)I provide a lot of links and announcements under the Activist Headquarters Forum. If you click on it you will find the info to call all the senators and the "iffy" ones that other Duers have assisted me with too. I don't know if you have called much in the past but I have and I usually get nice staffers, even the GOP ones are cool if you are respectful too. They love to hear compliments and support of course. Whether I call a GOP rep to complain or a Dem rep to support, I ALWAYS feel good afterwards. It is the feeling that you have done something instead of just talking about it. RESIST!

(15,555 posts)Now, I do believe the rest of us have the responsibility to make sure that EVERY DAMNED ONE OF US VOTES A STRAIGHT TICKET ON NOVEMBER 6TH!!! If they are fighting this hard, we need to fight just as hard to get more Dems in Congress. We need every single vote. That's how we make a statement.

(492 posts)I actually was considering not to vote for her last election. She was calm and steady through that exchange with BK when he was going off the rails. My wife, remarked that she would make a good therapist. Oh, it'll be a long week for him. Won't be surprised if he withdraws his name around Thursday or Friday.

(58,785 posts)that has impeded Republican corruption this much -- even though they currently have control of it.
Because of that we have the right to view the hearings, making it possible for America to actually see one of our committees in action and see some of what they do. Of course, we have many committees and by far most of the battles still take place behind the scenes, including this one's, but this is a little glimpse into what's really happening.

(3,684 posts)I was amazed by the way they politely argued with each other.
But I wanted to shake Chuck Grassley til his teeth rattled.
Our leadership though were nothing short of fabulous.
Tenacious, well reasoned arguments, not allowing Grassleys bullshit to go unrefuted.
I listened very little to Kavanaugh because he just wasnt credible.
But the process was fascinating and I learned a lot.
