It's not necessarily that she's telling the truth (which she clearly is) and he's lying.
It is certainly possible that Kavanaugh believes he is telling the truth because he doesn't actually remember assaulting Dr. Ford.
To her, it was a traumatic event seared in her memory that changed her life.
To him, it was just a few minutes during another drunk night as a teenager that blends in with all the others before and since as not memorable.
I'd call that privilege.

(13,776 posts)His roommate says he was a really terrible drunk; he denied it. "I like beer."
I assume he denied being involved in gang rapes (I couldn't watch the whole day), but he was seen in line at a party.
He denied exposing himself.
And there's the lies about other things, like the memos and the financial stuff.
I think the GOP has successfully persuaded all of us that his entire nomination comes down to "did he try to rape her or not? if not, he totally deserves to be on the Supreme Court." But he lies and lies and lies about other stuff, too.

(32,712 posts)If you know you forgot stuff while drunk and you were always drunk, then stating anything with certainty is a lie/dishonest. At best, you can say, "I don't recall doing that."
And the bullshit about how he couldn't have been a sloppy drunk because he got into Yale, etc., tell that to GWB. BK was a privileged brat going to a boarding school. Pretty sure his family had connections.

(19,993 posts)that he doesn't remember it. I knew some guys like that in college who would go out partying and get so drunk they would sometimes puke, pass out, and wake up the next day hung over with a terrible headache and only a spotty recollection of what they had done the night before.
The ill-tempered Kavboy certainly shows his background of privilege. Basically, "How dare you little Senators ask me stuff like that!" Very Trumpian.
