I just heard Rick Santorum say that on C-SPAN this morning
as I was surfing the channels.
I kept moving to other channels.

(15,290 posts)That sounds about right as I know women's life span was in the low 80s.

(94,738 posts)It's not the average age; it's the average life-span.
(FWIW, it's actually 81: https://www.statista.com/statistics/274513/life-expectancy-in-north-america/)

(4,309 posts)This is not a hard statistic, but a speculative projection of what the future may hold for the women of US, Canada, and the North American continent, if all goes well. In this study, the figure of 85 was projected only for females born in CANADA in 2018, while those born in USA were projected to probably have an average lifespan of 81 years. Furthermore, it is not the same as the average age, or the average age at death currently, which are somewhat lower, especially for the US and more especially for some subgroups of females in the US, whose average age at death has actually gone down slightly in recent years. Republicons would like us to believe that we are all living much longer now and therefore should retire much later in life than the midsixties, but this is not true.
