Mixed ethnicity marriages aren't so popular in Tennessee GOP circles after all... but more popular than homosexuality.

Now I'm gonna get rightfully slammed by the good people of Tennessee. I apologize folks... but I'm not sure that assessment of your states GOPers is any different.

We have our own bigoted GOP problems. I live in Chspel Hill. I do visit TN a lot, a week or more most months.

I think a lot of them are, some over sex, some over Russian mob money.

And I thought I'd read that he was able to avoid selective service or the draft by presenting himself to the board as a "homosexual"...

I have also read that his Dad's political connection may have got him out. Can't find a link, it has been a while, I think it was in the Louisville Courier Journal during one of his re-election campaigns. Wish I could find it.

Following is a cite in the Wikipedia article. Cheves, John (October 22, 2008). "McConnell received honorable discharge from military". Bluegrass Politics. Archived from the original on January 21, 2018. Retrieved February 3, 2015.

A site called Quora (for which I cannot vouch) suggests McConnell received a medical discharge for an eye condition. [link:https://www.quora.com/Did-Mitch-McConnell-serve-in-the-military|

While 1967 was before my time as an Army JAG (I would have been in kindergarten at the time), I am confident he did not get an honorable discharge after a court-martial for sodomy. It is possible that if a young trainee was caught in homosexual act in his first five days of basic training, he might have simply been quickly discharged. However, that seems unlikely.
