As people look forward to her testimony, keep something in mind: nobody has heard her speak about the Kavanaugh case publicly. Nobody knows how she'll come across when making her statement or answering questions, especially hostile ones.

(1,058 posts)the WH is too heavily invested in his confirmation and so far, there is absolutely no indiction he's going to withdraw.

(26,739 posts)As of right now... Kavanaugh is headed for the court with little evidence but her own story backing her up....
...BUT nobody know how shell come across. She might be outstanding and so persuasive that a couple Republicans cant vote for him.

(19,956 posts)what we have seen and heard so far, there does appear to be smoke. On top of that, if the allegation is true, then Dr Ford persevered to become a Professor, which suggests to me that she will have the focus to represent herself very well.

(34,455 posts)Are accustomed to handing tough questions, and women professors have often been subjected to hostility from students and colleagues at conferences, etc. She will be facing a lot of stress, but I predict she will come across as credible, bright, strong, and genuine.

(13,466 posts)Not to mention that she apparently had to face this horror in therapy and come out on the other side. I know what that feels like on trauma that wasn't even sexual assault! And the other side of that process is a much better place.

She just has to be herself-- a thoughtful, sensitive, intelligent woman who has had to spend decades dealing with trauma, in her life and her profession.
She's, well, REAL. Unlike robo-Judge. She'll come across that way, because she is that way. If she's nervous, who could blame her?
I think there will be attempts to trip her up, but she can just reiterate she knows what she knows, and she took a lie-detector test to prove it.

(8,311 posts)So what are you trying to say? Don't get up hope, or do you honestly think it'd have been better for her to go to the media and be interviewed before giving testimony? They'd then hold *that* against her.
Fuck, at least she's GETTING to testify -- which is at least one more level of serious than the DA, without even talking to me to evaluate my capacities as a witness, took me when I reported my rape. And I hope it helps her heal to speak the truth to power.
There's no need for a "cautionary note" in either case.
