I heard this statement on my local news yesterday, then again by someone on NBC. Well-liked? I see no evidence of that; and the blue collar part is mystifying to me.
This is what the GOP does though; keep saying it over and over; trying to establish Ryan as the candidate for blue collar workers, since there's no way Romney can be portrayed that way. Ryan is the guy who was raised in a middle class family in Wisconsin. Champion for the common folk!!
Ironic isn't it? Blue collar workers are the group that Romney/Ryan will hurt the most if they have the chance.

(23,272 posts)Ryan did NOT grow up poor or even middle class!
He may not be on the level of Rmoney but he and especially his wife, grew up privileged with big bucks.

(35,015 posts)Rove was successful at portraying Bush as an ordinary guy, you know, "someone you'd want to have a beer with". A good ol' boy Texas cowboy (even though he's terrified of horses).
It worked with him, they're hoping it works with Ryan too.

(27,461 posts)I heard I think Rachel Maddow talk about a poll where even in his district, people were surprised when informed about his budget's effect on Medicare.
I think the Obama campaign will do a good job of educating people about Ryan. Swing-state voters will learn the most.

One day as a 16 year old, Ryan came upon the lifeless body of his father. Paul Ryan, Sr. had died of a heart attack at age 55, leaving the Janesville Craig High School 10th grader, his three older brothers and sisters and his mother alone. It was Paul who told the family of his fathers death.
With his fathers passing, young Paul collected Social Security benefits until age 18, which he put away for college. To make ends meet, Pauls mother returned to school to study interior design. His siblings were off at college. Ryan remembers this difficult time bringing him and his mother closer.
