Perhaps?
That was the response of Bill Kristol on Ari Melber's show.
It is a very shoddy story, in my opinion.
They use second-hand sources that were not at the meeting but reportedly had read it in a memo. The names attached to the article were Maggie Haberman, Michael Schmidt, and Adam Goldman, all respected journalists of the NYTimes.
They are beginning to give "fake news" a bad name.

I am still in awe that things have gotten so bad that a Bill Kristol or a George Will are actually doing what they are doing.

(115,834 posts)Both have won Pulitzers and have written highly critical stories about Trump and his administration. It's actually possible that what they wrote is actually true, or at least well-sourced. A story shouldn't be called "fake news" just because we don't like it.

(24,128 posts)to increase their ratings. Not one of their anonymous sources was actually in the room where these comments allegedly took place. It is second- or third-hand gossip, nothing more. Someone fed them a narrative and they embellished it regurgitated it.
Even if Rosenstein had mentioned the 25th amendment in anger at some point, it would not be a basis for a real news story. And, by the way, I doubt he did. The 25th amendment was only mentioned in McCabe's brief notes from the meeting, and that quote was not attributed to anyone in particular.
Either these reporters are lazy, or they don't have the stones to insist on real sources. My guess is that it's the former.

(24,128 posts)A media campaign. So far this is only conjecture, but given the reaction of major media it seems to be working. Ingraham on Fox pounced on it immediately. Others are following suit.

(15,751 posts)In the Bourne Legacy movie, the bad guys need to cover up a failed, [good guy Aaron Cross made them fail], assassination. Bad guy successfully 'played' the Washington Post, to help the coverup. Seemed plausible, doable.
