Bill Maher gives $2 million to House and Senate Democratic super PACs

Comedian Bill Maher was among several wealthy backers of Democratic causes in August, donating $2 million to super PACs affiliated with House and Senate Democrats, new campaign finance disclosures show.

Maher, the outspoken host of HBO’s "Real Time with Bill Maher", donated $1 million each to House Majority PAC and Senate Majority PAC on August 20.

Though Maher sometimes writes smaller checks to candidates, he has not made a political donation in the six-or seven-figure range since the 2012 elections. Then, he donated $1 million to a super PAC supporting President Barack Obama’s reelection, according to Federal Election Commission records.

Maher was among other Democratic donors who made hefty donations in August with hopes of helping their party win back the House or Senate.

2. I'm glad he's donating to orgs that SUPPORT Democratic candidates...

... rather than to ones that make a habit (a mission?) of denigrating and smearing the Democratic party. That's an honorable and helpful thing to do... but for the most part, he's still not my cuppa-tea.

I'm not a huge fan of Maher, but he knows that Trump is a disaster and the Democrats are really the only option to put the brakes on Trump.

Are other wealthy Democratic leaning celebrities and those in business making contributions as well? We know Tom Steyer is also active. And, that Jewish Republican billionaire in New England is giving money to Democrats, too.

I think maybe 2012... seems about right. And YES!!! We need more wealthy celebs who are willing to put their money where their mouth is. Anyone can be a loudmouth spoiler, whiner, and chronic complainer. (I mean, you don't see Susan Sarandon donating millions of dollars to Democrats.)
