Former Senator and Secretary of State John Kerry, who has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, has come under scrutiny from conservatives for his relationship with Iran.
The Massachusetts Democrat told conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt that he has been communicating with Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif about the nuclear deal he helped negotiate under President Barack Obama in an interview that aired last week.
What I have done is tried to elicit from him what Iran might be willing to do in order to change the dynamic in the Middle East for the better. What do you do to try to get peace in Syria? I mean, those are the things that really are preoccupying, because those are the impediments to people, to Irans ability to convince people that its ready to embrace something different.
Trump responded by tweeting that Kerrys illegal meetings would undercut our great work.

Essentially what he said was that all former secretaries speak to their former counterparts. It is not negotiating. Also the three times that he spoke to Zarif when they were both at a conference on world peace, the UN, and the Munich conference, it was before Trump pulled the US out. At that point, Iran honoring the agreement was what we wanted. It is now what all the other countries want.
In fact, Trump and Pompeo were likely attacking him because he was doing an excellent job defending the Obama foreign policy successes. In fact, this was a recycled accusation from May when they attacked Kerry for the same thing ... and it didn't work then. I guess Rubio thought adding his 2 cents would make him seem like a foreign policy expert.
(In fact, Obama/Kerry avoided a near certain war with Iran -- that might, in spite of Trump and Pompeo never happen.)
