(43,890 posts)Let them fall on their swords as honorable men.
Probably the only honorable thing they might have done, even if by accident.
So do it.

(26,045 posts)...and, as Wayne and Garth used to say, "gavels COULD fly out my butt."
The fact is, it takes 67 Senate votes to remove, meaning you'll need at least some Republicans to join in. If you think any Republican is going to join a movement to remove a conservative Justice so a liberal can get a lifetime appointment, I'd love some of whatever you're smoking. In fact, I'd say it would be easier for Republicans to impeach a President of their party than a sympathetic Supreme Court Justice, because, in the former case, they'd be replacing him or her with their Vice President, who would presumably be ideologically compatible.
Make no mistake if Kavanaugh gets confirmed, he'll be there for life. And theres nothing we can do to change it.

(14,998 posts)Getting a life-long principle/value-free GOP-partisan on the court is worth losing elections, to their paymasters *cough* I mean donors and constituents .
If they confirm him, they're done, it's over, yeah there *might* be a cost later, but at least they are done. If they don't, who knows what might happen? It's possible, even if very very unlikely, for things to get derailed long enough for a reverse-Garland. They dislike THAT uncertainty more than the uncertainty of losing elections later.

(58,785 posts)what happens next. Tonight Hillary Clinton sounded a warning on Maddow about the rise of authoritarianism and future of our democracy.
Both parties MUST have control of the senate. They to continue the march to authoritarian government, we to save democracy from what they have become.

(26,757 posts)I dont know about flash approval though. They can get him out of committee, but a full senate vote still requires days of delay opportunities... and we may have a hole card to play during that time.
