(14,565 posts)They have the votes to confirm. Once confirmation happens, that variable is behind them. Their base will celebrate and people who don't follow politics closely are going to accept it and not dwell. There will be TV commercials praising our great senators for confirming such a great American. That is absolutely what will happen. They won't run scared and stay away from commercials like that.
Then Republicans move onto their next suppression scheme, or whatever, while we have Rachel Maddow still whining about Kavanuagh every night.
That's how the other side maximizes and we minimize. We can feel great about purity but it is stupid to use terms like lie detector and vetting as if Republican leaders care in the slightest.

(171,090 posts)I think that's a great consideration. Why not? No one seems to give a damn about what she went through, then and now. And the gop has lost any claim to decency.

These are reasonable requests and everyone knows it....so the gop will have to either deny the requests and pay the price, grant the requests and pay the price, or withdraw this heinous nomination.
I also wish this issue would be placed in the context of Trump's support for other officials and candidates with similar problems, his sleazy friends, his payoffs to mistresses, his visits with prostitutes, his admissions via Access Hollywood, his performances on Howard Stern, Trump's cheating on wives, etc. Why can't the media/dems manage to make overall strong cases rather than deal with the each issue by focusing on just the headline of the day? There's SO MUCH to connect this nomination to a lifetime of bad behavior!
