What if we recruited liberals from Mass., NY, and CA to move to states like Wyoming, the Dakotas, Idaho, etc. to move to these states and flip them blue? Wouldn't that solve all our problems?

(8,968 posts)A very livable blue patch in an otherwise deep red state. Far more progressive than, say, Riverside County. Mayor Bieter is a lifelong Democrat. Obama carried Boise city twice as did HRC, although Ada County as a whole tips Republican. Even conservatives here tend be be libertarian live-and-let-live types, and not beer gut crazies. Aside from that. the notion of relocation for the purpose of shifting political demographics is ill-advised and bound to fail. Winning people over on the basis of critical issues, as is happening with independent women at the moment, makes far more sense.

(24,396 posts)What is Disneyland Idaho like?
Zambero
(8,968 posts)I hail originally from Long Beach CA. Been here 13 years with prior stops along the way in Oregon and Maryland. I'd say the vibe here is interior Northwest with a Rocky Mountain element as well. Have enjoyed Disneyland many times, but prefer outdoor activities in a natural setting. Weather is high desert, low humidity, mostly sunny days with distinct seasons. About 20" total of snow per year in town with skiing minutes away. The dry climate is a plus, making seasonal temperature extremes more tolerable. Don't have the coastline here of course, but there is a white water park on the river that recently added a wave simulator (and sandy beach) for those seeking out a surfing vibe. Culture-wise there is an active arts, music, and food scene. Did I forget beer? Portland and Seattle have a major competitor in that department. The annual spring Treefort festival draws 100's of artists from around the country. The population is becoming more diverse and if someone arrived here hoping to find themselves in a lily-white conservative Mecca they could be in for a big disappointment. It's no secret that the state as a whole has a long way to go. There are liberal enclaves in places like Ketchum, Moscow, Hailey, and the college end of Pocatello. South and east Idaho is as LDS as most of Utah. Not to knock anyone's religious preference, as they are for the most part decent people, albeit providing a solid 35% vote bloc for the GOP statewide, a steep hill to climb for any Dem in a statewide race.

In November through...oh, March...Schweitzer Basin is open for skiing. In April you have to find your own entertainment.

(1 post)From everywhere, actually, but Cal especially. I believe many are looking for a more conservative place, so they aren't shifting the balance Leftward for the most part.
When my family first came here, Idaho had Dem. Senator Frank Church and Gov. Cecil Andrus. We've been in red state hell since Steve Symms defeated Church. Boise and the other university towns along with Sun Valley have been the only blue/purple spots on the map for decades.
One bright spot this year is the candidacy of Paulette Jordan. If elected, she will be the first Native American governor. The odds are against her, but she has attracted a lot of attention here and nationwide and I believe she'll finish strong.

My price would be maybe 750k /yr and contract of < or total of 3 yrs * covering 1 election cycle and 1 midterm only
and not until kids are out of high school would I be available , then use some of the money to send them to a nice university (not nearby ) or to do whatever on thier own, and visit them and friends family etc so I'd have to be by an airport and live security needs are paid for by recruiter
Not taking family there even at 750k a yr and I probably only need to be there a % of the year to vote in those states so price includes maybe keeping another location to get away from wingers and freezing cold as frequently as voting law allows, hmmm so maybe it needs to be a higher price to recruit me to Wyoming or other states mentioned.
I would really have to think about 750 now that I think about it even a little
My thought is some liberals that move there would become republican eventually too or thier young children have a high probability of ending up RW
*Contract would include not being forced to live around rich assholes house district area also...
