It's GENERIC.
There's nothing in it that connects specifically with the current accusation.
And then I was thinking about the way Kavanaugh has been decorating himself with females throughout the whole process -- even bringing Catholic school girls to the hearing to sit there in their plaid uniforms and peter pan collars while he testified.
So I'm wondering if they knew he was a "carouser" in high school and college (and maybe beyond), and so they were trying to inoculate him against any ME,TOO complaints that might come forward. So they put together a list of 65 women who would sign a character reference to be issued whenever it was needed.
And they used as a cover-story (for gathering the signatures) their concern that women might not like him because of suspicion about Roe V. Wade. But if that was their REAL concern, they would have released this letter long ago. No, they were waiting for a woman like Christine Blasey Ford to step up.
That's why this letter is so vague. It could have been written about ANY accusation involving a woman. So they just stuck a date on the top and handed it over the day after Prof. Ford came forward.

Brett attended Georgetown Prep, an all-boys high school in Rockville, Maryland. He was an outstanding student and athlete with a wide circle of friends. Almost all of us attended all- girls high schools in the area. We knew Brett well through social events, sports, church, and various other activities. Many of us have remained close friends with him and his family over the years.
Through the more than 35 years we have known him, Brett has stood out for his friendship, character, and integrity. In particular, he has always treated women with decency and respect. That was true when he was in high school, and it has remained true to this day.
The signers of this letter hold a broad range of political views. Many of us are not lawyers, but we know Brett Kavanaugh as a person. And he has always been a good person.

(108,994 posts)Personally, I think "Professor Ford" is even better than "Dr," so that's what I used. (the phd's I know don't call themselves Dr., even at work.)

They must have had this letter ready to go if/when anything came up suggesting he had ever behaved in any way inappropriately with women - even if they didn't know yet about this specific complaint. Somebody must have suspected or known he'd been catting around or downright abusive at some point and wanted to be prepared.

In a private Facebook group composed of more than 20,000 Yale alumni this week, some members have noted Kavanaugh's stated membership of TNC; most people commenting on the group have described it as informal and minor.
Other societies were looking for a prestigious family background, or your GPA. Each had their own personalities, said Sherry. TNC, Sherry said, was unique: It was organized around having sex with coeds.
Several years before Kavanaugh was initiated into TNC, Sherry said, the people on campus called the group by an alternate nickname: Tit and Clit.

Nada about time in college, law school and beyond. And he didn't marry until almost age 40, 2004. b. 1965.

(51,627 posts)On CNN and MSNBC they are running ads and have been for at least 3 or 4 weeks. They piss me off because they are on my stations that I watch and not Fux Rise. I yell rude things at the TV every time I hear it.
They planned ads two months ago aimed at educated, liberal women and are using white women as actors to say how wonderful Kavanaugh is. They knew the abortion issue was going to come up so they planned this strategy for that. They didn't know that he has no respect for women beyond this issue until now, so they will be using this ad big time this week to counter attack the sexual assault allegations too.

(108,994 posts)which started long ago. They knew that he could be subject to MeToo allegations , and wanted to be ready when they came.
It wasn't any secret that he was a drinker, and that he'd belonged to a club at Yale known for its alcohol and nicknamed Tits 'n Clits.
So they've been working to inoculate him against Me,too ever since he was nominated. And that's why they have been rushing this through. And that's why they put this letter together. If this letter were about Roe V. Wade it would have been released long ago.

Just dont forget they did a lot of legwork to prepare to defend Kavanaugh with women on other issues Roe for example and so had a lot of names compiled. Months ago I sat with a former female law clerk who vouched for him and was helping organize similar people

I am curious about the letter from the 65 women -- WHO organized it, and WHEN. I would bet a lot that it did not happen spontaneously, and that it was planned well in advance because Kavanaugh's backers knew this was coming.

(108,994 posts)Roe V. Wade was probably their cover story for why they were gathering these signatures.
But they were really saving it for a Me,Too allegation. And they finally got one.

TBH, I doubt they had any idea about what he did in high school, but they had women character references ready beforehand to help qualm fears about how he'd rule on Roe and because he worked for Kozinski.

(108,994 posts)If it was really Roe v Wade, they would have released the letter a long time ago.
I think they gathered them because they knew he was likely to be subject to MeToo allegations -- among other things, he belonged to the heavy-drinking all-male social club at Yale nicknamed "Tits 'n Clits" -- so they wanted to be ready when it happened.

(25,895 posts)that many people we knew back in high school. Depending on how large your school was (I graduated in a class of about 425), you only knew a relatively few of your fellow students. Heck, my sons graduated from a very small independent school, class size about 40, and as small as that was there were students they never had a class with all four years.
I attend my high school reunions. I think they are great fun. But what stands out most when I go is how many of my fellow graduates I barely knew. It is great fun re-connecting, or even connecting with someone I barely knew back then.
So 65 women signing a letter saying they knew him back then? It doesn't pass the smell test.

That's how it works at single-sex schools. You don't make friends with dozens of members of the opposite sex at other schools.
And arriving drunk at a mixer every couple months doesn't facilitate getting to know girls very well.
DeminPennswoods
(15,290 posts)IIRC, the letter says they've known him for 35 years tops, so maybe some have known him since high school, but that would be college and beyond since he graduated high school in 1983 or 84.

(108,994 posts)in many places as if they've known him since high school.
I'll tell you what I found when I checked the very first name: a woman who was appointed by the very corrupt Gov. Rowland of CT to a state position, who is married to a man who was a state office holder for over 10 years, who was also accused of corruption but seems to lost a re-election attempt in 2004 because of a sex scandal in which the paper reported his activities "could make Anthony Weiner blush." And in 2011 he was on the verge of winning the position of state GOP chair when articles came out about his previous corruption and sex scandals.
So maybe this woman has a warped perspective on what constitutes a good man. It looks like they're still married -- at least White Pages has them in the same household.

(115,836 posts)That there are 65 women who knew him in high school well enough to attest to his character is just not credible in any universe. They'd have been better off with maybe a dozen or so signatures, which might have been believable. 65 just isn't.
If one of my high school classmates had been nominated for the Supreme Court and I was contacted with a request to vouch for his character, I doubt I could come up with anything more than that to the best of my recollection he seemed like a nice guy who, as far as I know, didn't rape anybody.
