Normally I do not stray to the outer boundaries of politics because I have been up close and personal with the whole process for a good chunk of my life.
Most political people are too vain, too insecure, too loose lipped to keep elaborate schemes quiet.
But ponder on this; What if the GOP skull and bones crowd, after the convention and everything is set for the fall, Romney suddenly becomes incapable, for what ever reason, of finishing out the election.
I suppose Romney would drop off the ticket and Ryan would then become the presidential standard bearer for the GOP. He and not Romney would become the spokesman for the GOP. Let's face it, the kid does have some charisma that none of the wanna bees in the party of Lincoln ever had.
He would probably loose but then Ryan would now be the de facto leader of the GOP and the front runner for 2016.
For some reason, Ryan excites their base like no one can.
But then again, they might have wanted to get Ryan out and front to stop the relentless call for Romney's tax returns. Every day that Romney is on the defense is a wasted day for their campaign.

(5,420 posts)who did they have? Baachman? Pawlenty? Portman? Jeese Ryan would look good to anyone when you consider the other choices. They're just glad it wasn't Tweedle Dee.

(34,845 posts)Do you honestly believe this is part of a master plan? First, the disaster that was Palin? Now Romney and Ryan?
Objectivity mandates that the rational view is that no one is driving the GOP clown car.
Supervillains exist only in comic books. The GOP is dysfunctional. Yay.

(34,845 posts)This is a perfect storm of opportunity. We have a charismatic, intelligent leader matched up against weak and, yes, you're right, irrational opponents.
Such a time can do wonders for rubbery spines.
