@StephenKing
IF Susan Collins votes to confirm Kavanaugh, and IF she runs for re-electiontwo bigs ifsshe will be defeated. It would be unwise for anyone to mistake how angry most Americans are at the way this is being railroaded through.

(1,336 posts)who is quite wealthy, and with dubious connections that would basically mean she has to abide by Dolt's wishes? I'm betting she has no intention of running again.

(51,636 posts)Sen. King is an Indep. and announced this last week. I called him to thank him on Thurs. and have called Collins several times. Next week I am calling RW deep red, pseudo Christian senators and pretend I am a die hard Evangelical who believes "Kavanaugh is a sinner in God's eyes and my fellow Christians in my community are in agreement that he does not belong on the court due so his un-Christian behavior". I know many of them are hypocrites who "really don't care" so I need to play that card for them.

(51,636 posts)They both will get to vote. I call reps in all the states and both parties all the time. Call the members on the Judiciary Comm. too. Especially Grassely and Hatch. With midterms coming up they need to be concerned about reelections for the GOP. Here is their contact info...

(7,447 posts)the jig is up and she isn't running again...or will maybe try and run for governor after laying low for a couple of years.

(54,445 posts)But my guess is that if Collins votes to confirm, instead of running for another term in 2020, once the noise starts to fade, she retires with a whole bunch of money thrown at her from some fictitious "job" that keeps her living in a style she would like to get accustomed to.

(4,642 posts)and it wouldn't surprise me if one or two Dems vote with the fascists. Its just the way it is. We were warned years ago that the fascists would load the court with rightwing nutjobs just as soon as the could, and they will. Elections have consequences.

(33,447 posts)Thanks for pointing that out.
It surprises me that so many on DU consider Kavanaugh a done deal before it's a done deal, even as the drip of information continues and as the disfavor by citizens increases. And then there are DU'ers like BigmanPigman above -- gives me hope!
The biggest weapon we have is noise. Not all GOPers are scurrying off to retirement. They need to understand how pissed off so many people are about this process.

(6,994 posts)are not the only Senators we have to be concerned with.
There are Senators Donnelly, Doug Jones and Manchin.
I called Senator Donnelly's office voiced my no opinion and got a reply (email) with a long drawn out explanation of his interview with the nominee and I took his explanation as a Yes...Hope I am wrong
Red State Democrats are more or less Republican Lites but we still need them to count toward a majority.
But its too damn bad a Senator will put politics before the good of our Country.
That is not what our Constitution is all about.
We all know They are Voices for the people. If their constituents as a Majority want a NO votes than they are committed to vote NO.

(7,228 posts)If any of them vote for Kav and flip the court rjghtie crazy for a generation, I say they are gutless sellouts of their party and values.
Yet, besides being judged by history, what can we the people use as leverage other than shaming them as idiots?
I'd rather preserve integrity on the SCOTUS even if it costs them their election.

They care about Republican votes in their State because they need them to win re-election..and don't care about losing the Democratic vote because they know Democrats will still vote for them because they want a majority.

(6,994 posts)We lost because Democrats allowed the Republicans to blame the high deficits on them that was fueled by W's actions and was necessary for recovery.
Democrats have this thing about being bullied by Republicans and don't say a damn thing. They got the shit kicked out of them during 2010* with false accusations and they wanted to maintain the nice guy approach...
With this Kavanagh nomination though I see a lot of fight by some and others are just going through the motions
Republicans tells the same lie over and over and soon even some Democrats start believing them.

(2,067 posts)Candidate Obama promised something like 8 times that all negotiations on the bill with the major players (pharma, hospitals, medical device makers, etc.) would be televised on CSPAN. In reality, the bill was formulated like every other bill: in closed door meetings with lobbyists. Americas Bitter Pill provides incredible insight into what giveaways were promised, what tit-tat arrangements were made, etc.
Im not knocking the bill itself, but from a perspective of how it was formulated and who was promised what, the record shows that its not really up for argument that it was one of the least transparent bills of all time. And that burned us big time, especially after all the promises of this bill will be different.

(13,921 posts)The right is not planning to play fair by democratic rules or process
If they hold power, they will consolidate that power in any way necessary. Elections are already skewed about as far right as mathematical tricks will allow. Think what happens when the Supremes are unaccountably hard right.
Or in other words, they are betting on ending the rule of law and democracy, not on continuing to manage to game the system.

(37,648 posts)Because she can't stay and not vote for him. There is no doubt the Republican Party has made this quite clear to its senators. You either vote for this chance-in-a-lifetime, or plan to leave the Party.
The Democratic leadership SHOULD likewise be that tough.
That's how important this is.

(23,158 posts)She was expected to run for governor, but since she's getting paid off by Koch (or some other oligarch) she may not need to now. I hope she runs and gets defeated. I hope a relative or friend needs an abortion and can't get it because of Kavanaugh, she needs to feel the pain she's causing others with her repug party before country attitude.
