(56,829 posts)the GOP spent millions to beat him in 2012 and lost. Now, they might not waste the money

(3,166 posts)WAY too important to have a Democratic led senate, and not so easy in Ohio to replace him.....No problem replacing a Democratic senator in CA, HI, or NY, but not the case in many other states....

(99,711 posts)If the race is close and OH can tip it in our favor it would be political malpractice not to put him on the ticket.

(6,386 posts)From the outside, at least in Cincinnati, I wouldn't have (and didn't in my post) classified him as "doing well" so I'm hope to hell you're right.
What are you seeing state wide for that conclusion? Not challenging - just looking for that broader perspective.
Thanks.

(3,784 posts)I get regular emails from the campaign, and according to one I got lost week, literally ALL the newest polls show Cordray in the lead, with the exception of one which has him well within the margin of error. This is great news when you consider that when this race first started, Cordray was something like 20 points behind. DeWine is a worm (and I know this personally), and he has plenty of skeletons in his closet, so I expect the ads running on TV to get a lot more devastating in the next month or so. And honestly, the last round of ads was pretty powerful (the one about how DeWine chose campaign contributions from ECOT over our children was particularly good).
The Ohio races are fairly personal to me. I don't know Richard Cordray personally, but his wife was my Evidence professor in law school. Also, Sherrod Brown is from my hometown, and my dad knew his mom. Glad to see that Sherrod is wiping the floor with Renacci. That guy is a piece of work.

(6,386 posts)I think your assessment of him as a worm is inaccurate. Worms make a variety of valuable contributions to the environment. Helping gardens grow is just one thing that comes to mind and that alone makes worms better than DeWine.

(6,386 posts)In addition to his politics, he's just a great guy. One of our that you'd like to just kick back and have a beer with. He gets high marks on that "W" likability scale that cuts well into independents and some more moderate republicans.
It also helps that in this cycle, he's up against a rabid Trumpist.
My hope is that Sherrod's coattails are strong enough to help Cordray into the Governor's job. I think he's got more of an uphill battle and his opponent (DeWine), while being every bit as rabidly conservative, doesn't have the overt Trump baggage that Renacci brings to the Senate race.
As always, Ohio is a GOTV state. When turnout is high, dems win. When turnout is low, dems lose.

(251 posts)My parent's were at a Bob Evans in Columbus late at night a few years back and Sherrod and his wife were sitting next to them. My mom started a conversation with them and they talked for a good hour. About a year later I went into the service and my mom made a request to have the flag being flown over the Capitol on the day I graduated basic training. Not only did Sherrod get me a flag but a hand written note in which he referenced the late night dinner at Bob Evans. Such a wonderful guy and an even better Senator!

(6,829 posts)He made Frank Zappa honorary Ohio Secretary of State because FZ set up League of Women Voter Registration booths during his 1988 World Tour.
"There is also a nationwide voter registration campaign going on at all the concerts, which prompted Ohio Secretary of State Sherrod Brown to name Zappa honorary Secretary of State last week"
