Trump on Tuesday afternoon touted the federal response to Hurricane Maria as one of his administrations best jobs after being asked what lessons the government can take from 2017 as it prepares for Hurricane Florence, which is expected to hit the East Coast later this week.
Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday slammed President Trump over his claim that the federal response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico last year was an "unsung success."
"This is an offensive, hurtful and blatantly false comment from the president," Schumer tweeted. "Nearly 3,000 of our fellow citizens died in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. That is the complete opposite of success."
Nearly 3,000 people died because of the storm, according to an independent study announced by the island's governor. It wasnt until last month, nearly 11 months after the hurricane hit, that Puerto Rico's government-owned utility announced it had restored electricity to all of its customers.

(9,044 posts)I thought we had dispensed with that "only report what they say" bullshit.
Is a reporters job to just report? Or to try to get to the truth?

They might get fired, but they'd get another job.
Plus, watching the Orange Cheeto meltdown would be priceless.

(70,268 posts)it sat out there, w the capacity to save so many of these lives, and created a bureaucratic maze for people to get care.
it only docked in san juan after it made the news that it was sitting there, treating a handful of people.
it never went to any other port. it never worked at capacity. it never even distributed the fresh water it was capable of making. and it left a whole lot of sick people behind when it pulled out to go nowhere.
that is my indelible memory of what a fucked up mess the whole thing was. that ship, sitting just far enough out to sea to be a total waste.
